Giving Tylenol, tempra, Pannadol (and other alike)to a child who just does not want to take it…..

Jessgore by Jessgore Young Parent(October 2006) (rank 6th)

Last night I was up at 1am with my son who was hotter then a fry pan. Poor kid I think he is cutting a couple of back teeth.

Most child pain/ fever relievers come in liquid form or a kind of gel, and they have a lovely flavour to them, banana, cherry, field berries, but sometimes kids just don’t want it from a dropper or a cup….

For some reason last night my son would not have any part of it, but he was so hot and grumpy I had to give him some.

Most pain relievers can be given with a liquid or food. Please read instructions first…

I tried the milk, he could smell the difference, I tried water ok again he wanted to take it but the minute he smelt the difference he did not want it…

So I opted for puree fruit.. Worked like a charm..

As it was late at night I did not want to give him to much just a few spoonfuls enough to know that he was getting the tempra (which I sometimes use) that he needed to get the temp down…

So my advice is here, if you have tried all that you think you can to get your child to take the pain/fever reliever try a little puree fruit…

Worked like a charm for Francis, he cooled down not long after and was happy enough to go back to sleep.

I hope this works for you...

Good idea.  I tip Ailish upside down, it always makes her mouth open, her hands go above her head and she swollows it quickly, only way we can do it as she HATES th flavour of what ever we give her....lil fussy pants.  Takes 2 of us to do it now she's getting heavy.

I will try that when she gets sick next time and won't take it from the dropper! Thanks Jess.

Great idea
There is nothing worse then trying to give it to them and a hand comes out and swipes the cup and it goes everywhere, or they just hold their mouth open and it dribbles out all over them, so next time this happens I'll try your idea

medicine's

luckily my daughter has always taken her medicine panadol etc pretty easy even when she' s got a high tempurature, and always promised her a glass of water or juice afterwards, and this has worked for us. I'm glad you found a way to give your child medicine etc a way that you found easy too.
