Conception: Keeping the sperm-count high

wombat68 by wombat68 Young Parent(April 2006) (rank 25th)

An anonymous contributor asked: Having problems conceiving.
It was only easy to get pregnant when we were at school!  When we want to do it, nothing seems to work.  I have firends and and family that either have needed lots of help, or have given up.  But that's no

reason not to take heart.  Often its something simple.  And it may not be you, but your partner.  Men are often the cause of the problem!  How, you ask?
I remember that I was getting worried when our second child seemed to be taking a long time to make.  Though enjoyable enough!, it was beginning to worry us both.  The first child had been so easy.  Then I read a book about how to increase the likelihood of conception (for men).
First, make sure the man isn't masturbating from day 5 to day 17 of your cycle.  No masturbating at all!  Remember that many some men masturbate more than once a day, even when they have a healthy and satisfying sex life with their partner.
Second, make sure you don't have sex every day from day 9 to 17.  Only on the odd days.  This maximises the potentency and chance of the man's ejaculation.
Thirdly, talk to your partner about it. I didn't at first and it was bothering us both more than we wanted to admit.  For us, it had become an unspoken issue leading to tension and a lack of desire.  You or your partner go with doubts about whether you can conceive for any longer than necessary.  (Remember that you are going to have to share lots of good and bad things, when the child does arrive.  So now's a good time to start.)
The very same month I followed the program, we had the joy of sharing that moment when the pregnancy test shows the right combinations of symbols and colors.
Lastly, tell your bloke to go down to the doctor, if the problem persists.  He may have an abnormally low sperm count, like many men.  The suspect is pesticides in food and too small underpants (Football shorts in Australia).

Hope it helps,

Wombat

Sperm count
Just to add into the mix a few things I have read. A man's sperm count is thought to be directly proportionate to the number of hours of daylight, so there is a better chance of conceiving in the summer and when you get outside during the day (although the two acts don't have to coincide!)
Coffee is also thought to give the wee tadpoles a kick up the behind and make them more mobile, so get the guy (not the woman) to have a cup or two before getting down to action.
Male sperm takes longer to re-populate than female (no comment!) so if you have sex too frequently, you may be more likely to get a girl. Let's just say that after nine months of trying, the boyfriend was tired out, resorted to coffee and we had a little girl - in the Spring!

a lot of study
there has been a lot of study conducted into this, great on writing the article. You may have liked to added a bit more on the problem, so the solution becomes more of an impact. but it does sound like you may have been trying to add a comment instead of write an article??? anyway, good info and personal experience
