Dry Nights

exquisite-flower by exquisite-flower Young Parent(October 2006) (rank 6th)

I have just started a new practice for getting E dry at night time.

She has been asking for a while now to have no nappy at night, and understands that she needs to be cry before we go without the nappy and although the chart is waiting for

the stars to go on it it is still empty.  So when Mum said I should try waking her in the night to take her I decided to give it a go.  So for the past two nights the new routine is:

  • Go to the toilet before bed
  • Nappy on and bedtime
  • At mummy's bedtime I get her up and take her to the toilet again
  • Settle her again with same nappy back on (if still clean and dry)
  • In the morning remove nappy immediately and put her on toilet again
  • If nappy is dry in the mornings for two weeks we can tehn start going without.

This worked for one of my brothers apparently.  So since she has been asking for about 5 months now we trying it out.  Shall try to remember to report how we do.  So far we have missed the morning  one.  I have just been too slow to mobilise I think.  However chart is now prominently on the wall and we are both motivated to go for it!

Does anyone else have tips or stories for what worked for them to ease the process?
Peace

Update

We still on it.  Only had the one dry night through that i am aware of so far, though some days she keeps her nappy on after she wakes - so possibly wets it then - who knows....

She is doing well with the getting up at night time for a toilet stop and settles down well after that.  Tonight was the first night without even a whimper and we had lovely snuggles as I carried her to and from the loo.

Shall wake early in the am I hope so can check out this theory...have been a little bunged up in my sinuses this week and gets worst in early mornings.
Peace

dry nights
i had pretty much the same routine in the beginning. My daughter did not like to be woken up before i went to bed. She cried and refused to sit on the potty. I gave up and most of the time she gets up herself and goes. Sometimes she makes it through the night without going and goes on her own in the morning. We have had a couple of accidents during the night since she started training. i started night training two weeks after she got the day potty training started. So i guess if you have a child that resists the waking up try letting them wake up on their own. Find out what works for your child and start from there. I started training my daughter at almost 28 months and she is almost three.

Good luck

All three of mine are horrendously slow at this one and all were in night nappies in Prep (and they certainly werent the only ones). DD was 6 when she was dry at night, it just took two weeks with the alarm at that stage.

I worried about her but with the boys i just let it go. Some kids are still wetting the bed regularly at 10- if it is a brain maturity thing there isnt much you can do but wait - although there is a nasal spray to acheive 'artificial' night dryness.

Make sure the child get plenty to drink (to stretch the bladder- without sufficient capacity night dryness is impossible.) and also try to extend the time between the child asking to go to the toilet and actually going ( again to increase bladder capacity.)

Night Potty Training
My daughter was very easy to train at night. sorry!! About two weeks after she was pee-pee trained during the day, i didn't look for any signs. I took away the pull-up at night and alot of people told me to wake her up before i went to bed. i think i did it twice and she screamed and cried. By the third night i said i am not doing this. i let her sleep through. Most of the time she gets up and goes to the washroom herself or sleeps through. We have only had about 3 accidents during the night in total since we started the night potty training.

Sounds good will try it when the time comes.. Thanks for the tip..

I am currently still trying to train the dog not to pee in the house.. Today the house was pee free, well he pee's on his mat... I think he has learnt that if he pees on the mat or outside he gets a treat... Funny he peed so much today...

I will definately try this method. I've been racking my brain on how to get miss3.7 out of nappies at night time.
