Camping with Kids

monyq83 by monyq83 Young Parent(October 2006) (rank 13th)

I thought I'd start a section where everyone can chip in and give some handy hints for when youre out camping with the kids so everyone stays happy campers (no pun intended lol).

My advice would be: Dont forget the toilet paper!

Kids and camping...
You could start a kids and camping group... :)
Mozzie spray... And when camping in Canada always keep the eski in the car at night.. You don't want the bears to come sniffing around the tent.. if the kids see that they may just get a little curious... :)

Little Houdini's
My kids for some reason have the Houdini gene.  My 2 year old worked out yesterday how to unlock the screen door and get out of the house.  I now have to lock it with the key and not the latch!!  Lucky we have six foot high fences so he can't get out of the yard!

We might try camping again some day!  My family used to camp all the time when we were kids.

Menu Planning
I know when we take our boys camping, they are always hungry.  So I do a lot of cooking ahead and freeze things to bring.  I also type up a menu so everyone knows what is coming up and I'm not inundated with "hey, mom, what's for .... breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack?!" I also type across the bottom of the menu the list of things that are available all the time for snack so they aren't digging around constantly or asking me.

This would make a good group
Have you thought about starting a group about camping with kids? I personally don't go camping but it would make a good read.

Didn't have much luck camping
Last time we went camping my 18mth old worked out how to open the tent zipper and she kept running away.  Very scary.  We had to get a large safety pin and put it through the zipper and onto the tent so she couldn't get out during the night.
