Letting your child help you to bake

Anonymous Author (November 2006)
I think it's a great idea if you allow your child to help you bake a cake or quiche etc. If you use the measureing cups etc, it helps them with numbers, fractions and tell the difference between the sizes etc, and also the ingredience of the bake. Helps them to
remember also what goes into what cake etc. Memory is a good issue here.

Good habits

It helps develop good habits as well.  Like cleaning up afterwards.  E Is allowed to wash everything that is unbreakable.  Also she sometimes will get ingredients out for me now and I just have to come and supervise her bake - thankfully she doesnt touch the eggs yet!!! Imagine the potential mess if they dropped. Urgh.
Peace

little people

Giving our children something to do that makes them feel they are directly helping mum and dad in tasks is a great confidence booster.  In relation to cooking, I let my kids help me stir the pot, and they know they aren't to touch the stove without mum or dad's help.  My eldest opens the fridge to get the different vegies we need.  They wait with bated breath for their next task.

It's so much better to give them something simple to do to help, rather than telling them to get out of the kitchen or keep out of the way.
