Are your kids social?

singlemum23 by singlemum23 Speaking(November 2006) (rank 500+)

I have had Alina in Long Day Care for 1 - 2 days a week since she was 15 months.

Since she had no siblings I definately think this contributed to her early confidence with other children. I believe that our kids can be more themselves when we are

not actually there.

She is sooo great with other kids. Really polite. Friendly. Affectionate. And caring for her friends. She is happy to be away from me now which is easier on my heart! Of course when you you first drop them off at day care - they are upset and so are you - but Let me almost 100% garuntee that .. they will settle in within 20 minutes of you leaving and have the best fun with their new friends. I understand everybody is different and we all have different views on leaving our kids with "strangers" but I think it is great and early preperation for their school years.

Her social ethics dont stop at preschool - she is great with kids in the playgrounds and parks as well - and now that her sister is here - she is very accepting of her.

So - what worked for us - may work for you - even if it is just occasional care for a few hours a week - I do believe your child will benefit form it - Although you probably love spending time with your littlies - it is great for them and - great for you too!

And as I mentioned earlier - your child will of course do the whole teary crocodile eyes for the first few times - but BE STRONG! :)

Have a great day - my fellow minti friends!

How hard is it at first!
I remember when Alina used to cry alot when I left her at preschool - when I would pick her up in the afternoon - the ladies would say that her episode was over within 5 mins of me leaving the premises. Then one day she also just said _ Bye mum! Now Im lucky to even get a " bye mum" she is just straight into it! I love it ! I now have no qualms about putting marisa in next year - as I am going back to university!

social children

Both my boys have been going to day care since they were 1 and they both love it. When i leave them now they just wave and give me kiss, Bye mum.

Jacob still gets a little upset at times but i know for a fact that once he can no longer see me his is having an absolute ball.

It helsp them to develope and grow, i feel it will make the transition to scholl a little easier too.

social children
Great advice. My daughter is very social. She loves her preschool. Although, i don't think that attending preschool made her social. i think it has opened her up to new experiences. It has given her the opportunity to make friends, choices, and decisions without me around. I think that has been very important to her development. i think that it is good thing to be exposed to these new experiences and structured program early to better prepare her for what is to come.

My veiw

Hi i have a three yr old and never been to day care, he is more advanced then my nefiew who is 4yrs and has been attending day care for 3 yrs. I'm not saying that as he's my son, but alot of people mistake his age i often get he looks and sound like a six year old. I buy word games which he makes into sentences. he dosent get the opportunity to mingle with other children as he has only 2 cousins whom are older and at school, but he is very social, he attracts attention fromall ages when we are out and about, he loves being with people. We don't go out much as being on my own when where out it's hard cause he's too big to carry and too big to sit in his brothers pram.

He loves all makes and models in cars that's how he strikes up convo's with people

I agree
I do agree, however my son did not go to pre-school until he was nearly 4 and my daughter is going next year she is 31/2, they both have great social skills and always have had with kids and adults.  My brothers kids on the other hand have always gone since they were little, and their social skills are not very good at all.  So even though I do agree with you, I think it sometimes can depend on the individual child.

Day care
I put my son Alex in Nursery School one afternoon a week. Pretty soon he will be there 2 times a week.  The staff say he is a sweet kid there. I find that hard to believe!!! But of course kids act differently when the parents aren't there.  He has been there for almost a year now also. It has really helped my son with speech and of course intereacting with kids his own age.

day care
I think all children need other children to play with even if they have siblings or not. It's healthy for them, and teaches them to communicate better too.

Day care...

I know day care is not for every one.. But I will totally agree with you as my son is the same... the first week is two days and the second week is four days... But for four of those days I am working at the day care with him... So really he is only there two days with out me... But I love watching the way he interacts with the kids.. And now when I am there and I leave the room he does not get upset.. He is happy to just walk in there to play with the children.. He has a sister but she is 10 years older. And I think this is just wonderful for him...

As I said it is not for every one but it is great for us....
