what to expect when waking up from circumcision

cjmcbain by cjmcbain Walking(November 2006) (rank 500+)
My son who is almost 2 is having problems and will be getting a circumcision real soon.  They say he will be put to sleep to do the circumcision.  My question is, what do expect after he wakes up and what do I pack for the stay at the
hospital.  I was very little the last tiem I had to be put to sleep and I dont remember what my mom brought and how I felt when I awoke.  Does anybody have any ideas or has anybody had any children who have be put to sleep to get a operation done?

My son kyle was circumcised at age 5 and lochlan at age 2. when they woke up - at first they are a bit groggy and not quite with it. when they are a bit more awake they want a bit of comfort as they can get a bit upset and be unsure. the hospital will want him to have some thing to eat before he leaves the hospital. just comfort him and try to put his mind on other things. if he has a favourite toy or something take it with you. I found the hardest part to be afterwards with putting on the vaselin and baths. just keep up the panadol and comfort him the best you can.

my cousin sisters son
my cousin sister lives in a 3rd world country.  her son got circumcised when he was about 8 years old.  the wound healed normally. my cousin sister comforted him as by having him on her lap.  give lots of kisses. she could not find appropriate pj's.

what to expect

HI, My son was done at the age of 8 due to complications and we were told it would be a straight forward op and only day surgery. They were meant to use a epidural during the anasthetic for the pain afterwards but jordans spine has a slight curve in it so they couldnt do it. Well when we saw him in recovery, he was on morpheine and his o2 levels kept dipping so his day surgery turned into over night. After all that, he healed up well with no infection and is as good as gold. I watched all the other kids being wheeled into recovery and a few were crying and one was vomiting but they all went home that day. I hated watching this happen to my son but i had no choice.

Hope your son goes ok, best of luck, xx

circumcision
I'm not sure what he will be like as I had my son done at 6 weeks old, but i would assume that you should take some pj's and a few "special" things for him.
waking up i would say just be on hand, I know as a kid i screamed when i woke up.

Good luck and hope it all goes well

Hmmmm
Hi
If I wake up from a circumcision I am going to cry
Yes they do female circumcisions as well in some countries.
So if i go in for a op and they give me the wrong one ....ouch
Good article but a brave one in this day and age with so many parents with differing opinions on it
Luv Deb
