fun things to do with toddlers in London - super slide |

I just spent a great day in beautifully sunny London with Felix (6) and Zoe (4). Isabelle (my wife) is travelling with our 5 month old, and I had the opportunity to have some fun with the team. It was loud and great. So what does one do -
I decided against the usual scooter run in the park with lunch later, and perhaps the cinema. Instead, we took the Tube to go to the City on a Sunday. Travelling in the Underground on a Sunday is loads of fun for kids who are mainly used to being chauffeured around (by poor mum) - it is realtively empty. They like it, because it involves plenty of escalators and fast movement.
We then went to the great Monument which commemorates the Great Fire of 1666. 311 steps in a column, and an amazing view of the city of London. The view is very cool with the mix of interesting new architecture, naff 80's and 70's building (except Lloyds) and some remnants of the old London. The kids went nuts screaming during the descent and by the time we left all the other visitors knew that Zoe is actually a superheroe with Lava powers (Super Zoe), whereas Felix is just 'Famous Felix' - no superpowers. Felix likes to hear about the 'Olden Days' whereas smart aleck Zoe told us that 'she doesnt care for the olden days and is only interested in today'. I fear for the future...
We then walked past the Thames to the Millenium Bridge, which doesnt shake anymore. When crossing the Bridge, Felix wanted to know who God's helpers were when he created everything. I said humans, but he disagreed, noting that in the time of Dinosaurs humans didnt exist yet. I wasnt quite sure what to say, and didnt want to undermine the excellent curriculum of his Catholic school. So we rushed to the other side and got an ice cream. Saved by the bell.
So then the Tate Modern. There is an amazing installation of super slides in the main turbine room. Truly godsmacking twisting slides - 5 or 6 in total. Still there for another 6 weeks, and higly recommended. The big ones are only for grown ups, but the shirt ones are quite a trip, and we all loved it. Zoe went screaming and Felix slightly banged his head, but we loved it. And then the triumphant call to Mummy, who was called names for missing out! She can never again be part of the superheroe team without having undergone the slide test.
Anyone else who has some good tips - please let me know.
