Bumbo chair news

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(November 2006) (rank 48th)

Now I was watching the news last night and they have a segment called health watch and the topic was those bumbo chairs.  They had a concern that I thought I would let you all know about since I think they have become really popular.  The concern was that

it didn't have a strap to hold them in.  They where saying to really watch your child because all they need to do is straighten out there body and pop out they come.  Some mothers where saying that tehy place this bumbo chair and baby on the counter to cook or on the couch to feed them.  The makerrs highly recommend to keep these chairs on the ground and if your baby begins to get  uncomfortable to give them a rest from the chair because it may try to straighten out and they could fall out.   I just thought I would share with you what the news said.  Tehy also said that the chair was really good when helping kids sit up earlier and keep there heads from getting that bald spot from lying down and it also gives you a rest from holding them all the time.  I think I might get when if I have another baby.

Re: Bumbo chair news
Just make sure every one realizes that on the box and on the instructions it says do not leave your kids unattended and also only place this product on flat surfaces not on high surfaces! those parents on tv last night left their kids on sofa's and tables which it clearly says on the box!!! I wish they had this when my 4 year old was an infant, but I do plan on getting one for the little one that I am expecting now!

Re: Bumbo chair news

I bought a bumbo seat a few weeks ago and Scarlett loves it, she is just over 14 weeks old now.  She is really good at holding her head up, and hates laying down now, always wanting to try and sit up.

I don't keep her in it for long though as I don't want her to tire herself out.

i agree though the bumbo should always be kept on the floor and I would never leave her alone whilst she is sitting in it.

Bumbo
Very important.
I have one and used it with both my boys. Its true they do straighten out.
Its great for babies 4mths to say 8 mths. It allows them to stay seated! But after that age they sometimes just want to get out and crawl.

Great advice
I also want to get one, but since my son is nearly sitting up on his own, DH really cant see the point. I also agree that it probably should have astrap to hold the baby in, maybe a crossover one or something similar to a high chair? Id hate to see a child fall out.

Thanks for letting us know, Marlena.

I think that parents should never put their babies anywhere more than about a foot off the ground. This is something that I always careful about when my son was young. There were times I had to use his infant carseat around the house so that I could leave him while I go to the bathroom (most of the time I brought him in there with me), but I always placed him on the floor.

Bumbo chair
I used a bumbo chair for my boys. It is a great thing. i would sit them in it on the floor and they could watch their sister play. I put a bucket of toys beside them and they could play with the toys and be sitting up fully. I would recommend it to anybody. I only used it on the floor.

I have one

I dont have one, but it is always good to abide by the instruction on the box - the manufacturer usually knows how best to use their product!!!
