Don't be afraid of doctors when it comes to your childs health

peachynowamum by peachynowamum Talking(November 2006) (rank 311th)
I know a lot of parents out there are too worried to take their child to the doctor for fear of being repremanded and being told that they are over reacting but... If you think there is something wrong then it should be dealt with!

As their parent who you know them best!!! It is better to be safe than sorry...  Also as your child can often sense that your stressed or worried it also makes them stressed as well so for your peace of mind don't hesitate as it could mean the difference between a calm nights sleep or a long stressful one!

Trust me I know

Also no doctor has the right to make you feel bad about going to see them if they do this then request another one and another until you find one that you like and makes you feel comfortable.

totally agree

I agree. No doctor should make you feel guilty for every time you go to the doctors. There could be a time where you don't go to the doctors, and their could be something major or minor wrong with them, and could get worse. Well written article, and straigt to the point. well done

hi,
I had 2 instances so far where no one believed me, The first my son was 6 weeks and no one not even my partner believed me but I thought he was not breathing properley, I insisted on going to casulty it turne out he had bronculities and needed urgent antibiotics. the second was after our car accident when they kept saying it was just shock 2 months after the accident. I finally got a decent child psyc and paedricin who agreed with the gp that it was ptsd and once treatment started things improved. Always trust your instincts and don't be intimidated

Ha Ha
This reminds me of being a new mum. My doctor was used to my frantic visits. My first one was when my daughter was about a week old, maybe two. She all of a sudden came out in a horrendous rash. I raced to my doctor. While he proceeded to take the layers of clothes off, he suggested that I put less layers on her or she will end up cranky all the time. Such a calm man he was good for a little while.

Too True

Your doctor is there to listen to you and take you seriously.  Only you know what is going on.  By looking at you or your child (s)he can no more see these things than your next door neighbour.  (S)he doesnt have some super human vision that can see symptoms on the inside.

They are human and sometimes they get things wrong.  But truly they can also only act on what we tell them, so make sure that when you go you remember to take that list of symptoms you had noticed and painstakingly written down so that they can get a full picture of how things are and diagnose appropriately.  (I always forget and then fumble and mumble my words - how embarrassing!)

Peace

dont be affraid

I took Zac to the doctor when he was about 6 months old witha  persistant cough and a fever. i was told by the doctor that i was just being an over protective mother and to go home! Just because he was smiling and laughing at the doctor. That night i took him to the hospital and it turned out he had Pneumonia!

If you think something is not right Get it checked no matter how small or insignificant you might think it is.
