My son is 8 Months old, and has 6 teeth already. He has 3 on top and 3 on bottom. It was a struggle finding ways through it, but with patience and some trial and error, Teething is MORE than manageable.
A few signs that you son or daughter
is teething are: fussiness, exsessive drooling, trouble sleeping, wanting to be held and constant gnawing on ANYTHING they can get their litle gums around!! Also, I noticed with Lucas that his gums raised, like they were swollen and he refused to let me open his mouth to see or feel his gums. He was extremely irritable, not so fun for Mom, but once is invested in teething tools, Teething became more of a breeze and less of a battle.
The first teething tool I Invested in was the ever popular Frozen teething ring. and I figured that he was TOTALLY going to go for it, But of coarse I was wrong, and Lucas wanted NOTHING to do with holding this cold ring. So I went back to the store to look at my other options. I found SO many teething toys! So, of coarse I started to load up my shopping basket with everthing in sight. I figured that I would buy everything and go home and do some trial and error testing. So here is what I found.
FIRST - Invest in some Infant Tylenol ot Infant Motrin that is NUMBER ONE is teething relief, BUT if you dont want to give your baby meds...
Next try - Baby Orajel teething SWABS. There are 2 ways to give orajel to your baby, the tube, where you put some on your finger and rub it on babys gums... HOWEVER the catch to that is the flavor, its is very pungent and my son HATED it, So i tried the swabs and they worked like a CHARM!! No strange flavor and you dont have to put you finger in babys mouth. You just snap the tip off of one side of the q-tip and the gel drains into the other side of the swab, no muss or fuss.
And if you are completely against any kind of over the counter help...
The frozen teething ring: Lucas was hesitant to hold onto it because of the temperature.
Teething beads: These are not for fridge or freezer use, they are just a circle of colorful beads that fit easily in babys hand and mouth, Lucas TOTALLY loves this toy, he still plays with it while he's not teething.
Teething Blanket: This was very interesting to me, and i thought it was a clever spin to teething toys, it is a fabric square with a fun picture in the center and teething corners for the baby to chew on. they corners are teething friendly plastic that feels great on babys gums. Lucas LOVES this toy as well. he can firmly grasp it and gnaw on the entire blanket with not fear of choking. ALSO, I should add for babies who have trouble parting with their pacifier, there is a tab on this blanket that holds a pacifier for baby. DOUBLE the teething aide.
Frozen or cold wash rag: The ULTIMATE teething accessory! If all else fails, wet one of your babies wash cloths ans stick it in either the freezer (if your baby doesnt mind the cold temperature) or just use cold water, and let your baby go to town. Lucas just loves his wash cloths, he like to gnaw them when he isn't teething as well. Most babies will go for this among EVERY other toy you give them. It goes along with the whole "I give them a new toy, and all they want is the box it came in" kind of thing.
Hopefully these tips guide you through the test of teething.
GOOD LUCK!!
