Minti addiction – is it a serious issue?

MumKim by MumKim Young Parent(November 2006) (rank 13th)

Hi my name is Kim and I am a Minti-holic.

A lot of us joke about being addicted to Minti and some of us aren’t really joking. I have to admit I am a Minti addict. The funny thing is that I have been on the other side of the addiction. My first husband was a computer addict. I left him and his computer usage was definitely a large part of the reason why.

At one stage during my first marriage I went to HolyOake to do a course for family members of addicts. Initially the other people in the group looked at me strangely when I said what my husband’s addiction was. Within a few weeks one of the ladies who was married to a violent alcoholic commented to me about just how similar our marriages were. Just for the record my ex never hit me. My ex didn’t drink, smoke, gamble or do drugs. He used the computer all day and all night except when he was sleeping. He worked on computers all day at work and then came home and played computer games until the early hours of the morning. In the last 12 months of our marriage he also added a gym addiction. He went from 125kg to 85kg in only a few months by eating only salad sandwiches for lunch and dinner and daily trips to the gym to use the treadmill. When he wasn’t on the computer he was talking about it. He was obsessed with online interactive adventure gaming. Most of the people he like to play with were in the US, so the best time for him to play was late at night our time when they were on their computers. Eventually after an 11 year relationship I decided that I could not live like that any more. I left him and we are both much happier as a result.

The other day my gorgeous wonderful second husband told me I was turning into my ex husband. I couldn’t deny it.

My Minti addiction is affecting the amount of time I spend doing other things.

Instead of doing housework – I am on Minti.

Instead of sorting the spare room to get it ready for baby – I am on Minti.

Instead of spending time with my husband when he is home – I am on Minti.

When I wake up in the middle of the night – I think about blogs, questions and advice I can write on Minti when I get up.

Some mornings before I have even had my shower – I am on Minti.

Late at night – I am on Minti.

My goodness, what will happen when the baby is born? Will I still be on Minti?

So now I am trying to reduce the amount of time I spend on Minti.

Being 33 weeks pregnant I need regular breaks from housework and other activities. So often during the day I set my timer 15 minutes on housework then I can either lie down or sit at the computer for 15 minutes. Then it is back to the house work again for 15 minutes.

I am trying to exercise control to stay off Minti in the morning until after 11.

I am trying to spend less time on Minti on the evenings that my husband is home.

I know I should try a Minti free day, but I am not quite ready for that yet!

Re: Minti addiction – is it a serious issue?

Time flies when you are on the computer! My kids think that I have an addiction to minti as it is the only thing I come on the computer for. I never used them before this so it is interferring with there time I think. That is the only reason they complain. They would rather be on here.

Re: Minti addiction – is it a serious issue?

Maybe you need to invest in a second computer so you can continue your addiction with reduced interruptions.

It's funny that you say Minti is the only thing you come online for...I used to surf all sorts of stuff pre-minti.

Minti is like having another family.

I couldn't help but laugh at my son tonight. He'd complained at me this morning that I was on the computer too much, and so I let him have it for a while... 12 hours later and I'm harassing him to get off the computer to go to bed! HYPOCRITE! LOL

Re: Minti addiction – is it a serious issue?

In regards to the house work, I find that if I spend an hour on minti I can then do some house work...I work faster so I can get back to the computer before my wife.

You are 100% right about the friends though...well worth the addiction.

Jealousy is a curse.

At times I get similar remarks from my dearly beloved but it is great that your partner can express how he feels so openly and honestly with you, it shows just how much he loves you.

Continue to do all the fun things in life together and maybe even introduce him to minti...we could always do with another male voice.

i'm a minti addict
hello my name is rebecca and i'm a minti addict  "smiles through dark glasses and waves politely to the room" i think i'm loosing my tan sitting here... i wonder if the wireless can reach out to the back yard... hmmm... "why do you think it is so addictive?" the councilor asks. "rebecca would you like to add somthing to this discusion?" she replies with a slugish and sleep deprived "yes, i would like to say... (pause for effect)... WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY LAPTOP AHHHHHHHHH!" and she throws the chair across the white room and runs to her nearest i-net cafe, gets her fix and lives in the cyber world of minti happily ever after... the end

Re: i'm a minti addict

Well thats a different outlook on the whole issue.

Yes the wireless sounds like a great idea to freshen up our anemic skin.

I don't things would get quite that bad for me that I would become violent if minti was taken away but it does make you wonder.

Minti under attack!!!!
Think my 13 year old is trying to tell me something. He just loaded the Minti homepage on to his special effects programme then promptly chainsawed the homepage into pieces, then reloaded it and splashed paint ball pellets all over it, he then reloaded it again and attacked it with meteorites then to finish it off he reloaded the page and flooded it.
I think he may be trying to tell me something

I feel another Group coming on.....'Minti Anonymous
Hi, I'm Lavinia and I'm also addicted to minti. I was clean for a few hours and then noticed a really good bit of advice. I tried to restrain myself but I too have the bug....'tis going to be a long long long road for recovery and by the look of it, we are all going to be totally useless with helping each other.....it is just a good thing we can get together here, this sacred place and support our addiction.....

The Minti system did not let them use the word 'Minti' in the name so the group is called Healthy time on line.  It was started a few weeks ago when I first wrote the article.

Yep, Yep, Yep,

Ha, Ha, Ha, so I'm not the only one!!!

This site is great. I always think, 'Just one more page to read - Then I'll go' Then one turns into 10 & before I know it, I've been here 4 hours.... When I should be in bed.        Hmmm!!

But I'm not here every day.

Yet!

Minti Addiction

WOW...This site really does have an influence on people.

I really can't afford to become addicted because I am already so far behind the eightball when it comes to the housework.

But you have to admit...Minti is a good excuse!!!

Minti Addiction
Beware the addiction! I too have difficulty with getting the housework done. I have found that using the Flylady helps. We have set up a minti group of those of us using the Flylady method. check out Flybabies.
You will find a link to the Flylady's website there.
Welcome to Minti. By the way - love the beach photo on your homepage.

Im not, am I, no I don't think so. So my husband calls me a Minti Freak and an addict, he is just jealous, its my time and I love it, so I check it a lot but that doesn't mean I'm addicted does it, all things in moderation and I know I will get there I just need time thats all!!  I have had the house to myself all afternoon, I could of caught up on house work but how much fun is that, I did a little bit in between coming on here. IM NOT AN ADDICT am I

my advise is that you and your husband need to sit down and come up with a mutual uagreement,as a baby is a fulltime job,and you dont want to lose that precious time as afamily,Goodluck.

No longer suffering in silence hahaha
When I first discovered minti my ranking went from 250+ to 14th in a matter of 2 weeks (give or take)....that doesn't happen becasue I was hanging out my washing...I put it in the dryer.  It doesn't happen if you are getting sleep....thank god for insomnia.  For 2 months I was an obsesive compulsive Minti addict.  Now I denigh myself EVERY urge I have.  I make sure I have DONE some house work and at least planned and organised dinner (eg. taken the meat out of the freezer).  The bed is made and I am not in my p.j.'s still.  If the urge is too strong I turn off the p.c.  It takes forever to boot up, so I HAVE to go and do something else in the mean time.  I do often feel guilty about leaving a wearying bub in the hanging doorway (in a Jolly Jumper) whilst I frantically sing her something to keep her mildly amused whilst I finish what ever it is I am doing.  I must say though that my typing speed has never been better and my accuracy is also improving....it's not all bad.

I think i joined minti about the same time a you, and spent a good 10 hours or so a day on here!  but now that i have a download limit on my internet connection i really cant afford to pay $80 a month for the exess usage, and now i only come on minti every couple of days, even once a week! And unfortunately sometimes longer.

to all my online friends... a prayer for you :-)
I'm not exactly the religious type, but having said that...

On this quiet evening,
As I'm lying here in bed,
This tiny little prayer,
Keeps running through my head.

God bless my mum and dad,
And the rest of my family too,
Keep them warm, and safe from harm
May their 'sweet dreams' come true.
And god there's one more thing,
I wish that you could do,
Hope you don't mind me asking...
Bless my computer too.
Now I know that it's not normal,
To bless a mother board,
But listen just a second,
While I explain to you dear Lord...
You see, my computer's hard drive,
Holds more than odds and ends. Inside those small compartments,
Rest so many of my friends

I know so much about them,
The love and support that they give,
Because day and night my CPU
Takes me into where they live.
By faith is how I know them,
Much the same as you,
We've shared in what life brought us,
And from that our friendship grew.

Please take an extra minute,
From your duties up above,
To bless those in my address book,
That's filled with so much love.

Where ever else this prayer may reach
To each and every friend,
Bless their e-mail inbox,
And the person who hits 'SEND'
When you update your heavenly list
On your own CD-ROM,
Remember those who've said this prayer,
Sent up to God.Com
