Choosing the right school

susan4god by susan4god Speaking(November 2006) (rank 290th)

How do you know if you are choosing the right school?  I have one year left before my eldest has to start school.  How will I know if I am choosing the best school for him?

I know that it is hard choosing the right school for

your children. The first thing to decide is are you going to send them to a public or private school. Once you have decided that make a list of the schools in your area and then ring the schools and make an appointment to visit the schools. When you go make sure that you ask about any thing that is important to you and your child, ie: if they have a disability, medical condition or are extreamly bright. and last but not least make sure that you are happy with the school and the staff as your children and you will be spending a lot of time there and it helps if you are happy. One last piece of advice if you want to have some say in what happens at your childs school comsider joining the school council or the equilivent as it is time well spent in your childs future.

Good luck with the looking.

Being involved
It is great for two very different reasons--you know what is going on and your children can feel proud about your being involved as well.  Great advice.

Parent Governor

There are many names for the parent element of the school but my parents were on every school board we had - at one time that was three different schools!

I believe that today when people seem increasingly defensive of their 'beliefs/bandwagon' and increasingly intolerant of others who think/believe differently it is important to know how your childs school is tackling this complicated issue.  I fully intend to be involved when it is our turn. (for many other reasons also)

Peace
