Pregnancy some general tips for surviving pregnancy

MumKim by MumKim Young Parent(November 2006) (rank 12th)
Here is a few things I have discovered while being pregnant.

 General tips around the house.

  • As you generally get told off if you try to climb on ladders or chairs while pregnant I have found that the kitchen tongs can be handy for getting small things down from the tops of shelves etc.
  • You can use pregnancy as a good excuse to ask your partner to clean the ceiling fans before using them in summer alternatively a long handled duster can be quite useful.
  • Most of us try to minimize our chemical exposure during pregnancy, bicarb soda and vinegar can be used for many household cleaning tasks – check out these Minti groups for some great ideas on natural solutions to cleaning your house. household tips  and natural living
  • If like me you are domestically challenged you may like to check out   flybabies .
  • Some days my belly is really uncomfortable and bending down to use the dustpan hurts. I managed to find a dustpan designed to use standing up. Note- apparently squatting is actually a good thing to practice. A midwife recently recommended practicing squatting to strengthen my legs prior to labor.
  • If in later pregnancy you find it difficult to get things done around the house try using a timer. 15 minutes housework, 15 minutes resting.

Pregnant ladies often get better service.
If like me and another pregnant friend of mine you get cravings for Hungry Jacks (also known as Burger King in other parts of the world) (60 km to my nearest HJ’s !) we have found that the staff are very helpful when you explain that as you are pregnant you need your burger made fresh. My friends’ husband says he is going to get her to order for them all the time!
I have also found that café staff are quite happy to heat food ‘extra hot’. I generally ask for café food to be heated ‘extra hot’ to minimize the listeria risk.

If you get caught speeding, tell the policeman you are racing home for the toilet!
I don’t usually speed but the other night I was pulled up doing 59km in a 50 zone. I had just been to a meeting and was busting to go to the toilet. I didn’t mean to speed but I think my bladder must have been overriding my brain. When the cop got to my window I just said “you got me! Pregnant lady busting for the toilet.” Fortunately he and his partner thought it was a good excuse and let me off with a warning.

Pregnancy....

I was once bent over inside the bath tub cleaning it... The hubby actually told me to get out and he would clean it...  It was a once in a life time thing...

I must admit I was like Izzy.... I did more then I should... Mind you at my job they kept telling me I was a wimp.. (some men just don't understand I was not there long afterwards)...

I am not pregnant but yes sometimes we think we are wonder women and continue to do things we should not.. Until of course someone tells us off, or rolls their eyes...

great tips...  Although I have not flown with the fly lady for about a week now...

Pregnancy....
Your bath tub story reminds me of a recent happening here. I got my cloth about to wipe down the bath when Haydon came in and took the cloth from me and cleaned the bath himself.
As we usually use the shower the bath usually just needs dusting so now I have started using the duster with a handle on it so I don't have to bend over so much.

Oh pregnancy. Unfortunately, due to my stubborn nature, I do more than I should. We moved when I was 3 months pregnant with my son and cleaned the house from top to bottom before we moved out. Then we moved to the new house a couple of months later, I moved boxes around and emptied them out on my own. Not to mentioned moved furnitures by myself. I also helped paint my son's room (though I did use precautions. We had windows open, and I wore a mask that sifts through dust, and fumes). Oh, and yes, I climbed! Nothing prevented me from climbing. Anyway, I agree with your advice as they are all sensible. Pregnant women aren't the most sensible people in the world, so it's always a good idea to keep on eye on them, even if they say they can everything.
