waking up at night?

mammyrebs by mammyrebs Talking(May 2006) (rank 500+)

Hi all

Haven't been on line in a while as i've been too busy (as you can imagine)

Just a little advice just incase you are in the same situation as me, i got my little one into a routine quite early, he's now 11wks and he started

sleeping quite well at night, but for some reason in the last two weeks he's been waking up quite a lot during the night, so what i did was gave him an extra ounce at bedtime (7oz instead of 6) and some water if he was thirsty (with a little camomile in ) and this seemed to make him more contented  untill 4am when he woke screaming again and trying to get him back off to sleep was a pain, but now i have cracked it for the time being,

What i do is after his 7oz at 8pm i wake him (i say wake him but i'm sure sometimes he drinks it in his sleep as i don't turn the light on) at 2.30am and give him a 6oz bottle (he doesn't always finish his bottles but i don't always finish my dinner either!) and he sleeps untill 7am.

Now all i have to do is deal with the cranky ness during the day as i think he maybe starting to teeth (i'm using a cold teething guard and bonjella) but he's still cranky  and like leaving my side for very long but hey you can't have everything can you.

But if anyone has any great suggestions please send them my way

bottle before bed
I remember we used to give our bub a bottle before bed, and Rachel was still breastfeeding... a nice full tummy helped him sleep longer.

Your little one will find his own rythym. Just hang on.
Hang in there.  My little girl slept 5-6 hrs at a time at 5 wks.  So when she started getting up at night around 6 months, along the time she went in her crib, I was frantic.  My husband and I took turns as I think she was waking up out of habit to nurse around 1:30.  Now it's about 50/50 as to when she will sleep all throught the night - 8pm-7am.  I know everybody has all kinds of advice and I have tried just about it all.  I have come to the decision that she will sleep all night when she is ready.  I can stuff her all day and she will still wake up.  Or she will eat like a bird and sleep all night.  She determines her sleep pattern, not me.

wow...

my son is 11wks also ( born feb 17th) - but he wakes at least 3-4 times a night to nurse for 30mins then nods off to sleep again - we have been trying to get him to sleep longer stretches at night but he seems to be too hungry to oblige.

i know formula fed babies are more full than ones that are nursed - how much does your little one weigh? my little guy is just shy of 11lbs.

and can they be teething this soon? at 11 wks???

Re: wow...

HI

yes some babies can start as early as 11/12 wks i've read, you'll know instinctivly as they will be drooling a lot more biting everything maybe loss of appetite and may get small clear bubbles on the gums. My neice started at 12wks so i think it differs from baby to baby,

Rhys weighs 13lbs and is 12wks on tuesday he takes 6oz bottles during day and a 7oz before bed, i would honestly try a bottle before bed but 6oz to see if that makes your baby more contented, i first gave my son a bottle at 3wks when i went into hospital with mastitis and he stayed at home with his daddy so got a bottle instead, then i started breast during day and bottle at night and then totally bottle when i had to go on painkillers for back, and he's healthy happy and fine, the only thing that changed obviously was his poo it's thicker and smellier on bottle, lots of people can scare the life out of you by saying only breast!!!! but a bottle at night if you prefer to breast feed won't do him any harm and i found that it made the transition easier too when the time came to put him on bottle full time.
