Constipation In Babies.. How to help |

I'm writing this advice to help other parents who's babies might have constipation like my baby had. (also I want to thank everyone who answered my question)
Your babies bowel movements change when you are changing from breast milk to formula or to cows milk. Also when changing different
brands of formula and/or starting pureed or table foods. If your baby is not getting enough fluid intake that could also cause constipation to happen.
Always keep your baby hydrated by still continuing to breast feed or by giving your baby formula(even by giving water, and fruit juices but ONLY 4OZ a day and not more than that). But remember to make sure that you are measuring the formula and water correctly when mixing it together. If it is not properly mixed together it could also cause constipation in babies.
Some type of fruit juices that will help your baby with constipation is prune juice (i tried that, but my daughter threw it up) pear and apple juice.
Please do not give your baby honey because it can make your baby sick with botulism.
There are infant foods out there that are high in fibre and will help with the bowel movements.
Cereals that are the highest in fibre are: Multi-Grain, Oatmeal, Barley, Whole Grain Rice, Mixed Cereal and Soy.
Strained foods are : Pears(my daughter loves these and it does help), Garden Vegetables, Mixed Vegetables, Peas, Peas & Carrots, Prunes and Applesauce(this is another one that my daughter loves to eat(i think the vegetables would work, if my daughter would eat them lol))
Junior foods are : Peas, Green Beans, Squash(she loves squash), Carrots, Corn, Garden Vegetables and Applesauce
If your baby likes to eat toast, you could give them whole wheat toast. Or if your baby likes crackers better give them whole grain crackers or biscuits!
Now, if you have tried most of these or all of these (like I had done) then you should go to your local Childerns Hospital. This is what I had to do the other night because my daughter was in alot of pain and nothing was working... I was even giving her lots of extra liquids such as water and she couldn't pass her bowel movements.
After I had gotten to the hopsital, they put something in her bum called Fleet Enema, it's a type of water to help soften the bowel movement. There are other methods that you could try, and I have one of them that the doctor told my husband to get. It is called Lactulose its a liquid form and you can get it over the counter and you don't have to have a perscription to buy it. It's cheap too!! You give them 5mls first and then after that every 12 hrs you give them an extra doze so then it would be 10mls and so on.. But make sure not to exceed 15mls in a 24hr period. (I used it for the first time last night and it worked within a few hours, but it could take a few days to work) When using Lactulose always make sure your baby is drinking lots of fluids or he/she will get dehydrated.
I hope that some of these work for you... I know some of these were working for me yesterday. But if you are still unsure please go to your Childerns Hospital and they will help you.
