Keep Your Child from Drowning.

indianlady51 by indianlady51 Walking(November 2006) (rank 500+)
All parents!   Please tell your children, If they ever play on ice and it breaks and they fall in and go under water to open their eyes and try to look for the sun shining throgh the hole in the ice. The only place that the sun will shine through
the ice is where the hole has broken the ice and is the only place that they will be abe to get out... A teacher told me this in  the third grade and then it happen to me. There was about 10 of us kids playing on the ice and not one of them saw me go under and I remembered what the teacher had told me about the sun shinning through the hole in the ice.  I swam to the hole where the sun was shinning through and pull my self up on the ice and it broke again and down I went again. I looked for the sun again shinning through the hole and was able to pull my self up again. It Saved My Life...

Scary!
I have just read an article about summer in Australia and how to be safe at the pool.  This is the flip side of the coin.  Stuck under ice.  I cannot imagine how that would be.  I agree.  Warning your children is certainly good, but preparing them for how to get out is even better!
Great tip!

Scary!
It is a scary story but a good advice. My dad told me one time that when he was young this kid fell under the ice in a deep ditch and the water was moving so fast he just slid under and had no chance to get out. He was stuck under the ice and just moving with the water. That story freaked me out and now when i drive along the river i always think of it.  My worst nightmare is drowning maybe because my parents lost a son by drowning and they would always be so nervous when i would go around water. Can't blame them!  Your story made a lot of parents think and will remind their kids of the dangers.Have a good day.
