If your breastmilk supply is low and pumping more often doesn't work...

pfallerj by pfallerj Talking Back(May 2006) (rank 112th)

Today's Tip - Ask your doctor about Reglan if your breastmilk supply can't keep up

If you don't seem to be producing enough milk, ask your doctor if Reglan is a good option for you. It's usually used to treat nausea, but it also promotes the flow of breastmilk. It's seemed to help my wife keep up with our giant baby's appetite.

Low breastmilk
I know its an old wives tale but it really helped me...a can of Guiness Beer. It tastes disgusting to a non beer drinker but I swear the morning after I had most of a can my breastmilk supply had increased amazingly. I had anough for a full feed for my son and more left to pump out and freeze. I know there is a bit of discussion about alcohol during breastfeeding. Im dont believe in drinking alcohol during pregnancy or during breastfeeding but I was seriously concerned about my supply so my father in law gave me a can of guiness and said to give it a try.

Hemp Hearts...I can't rave enough about them!
Eating Hemp Seeds aka Hemp Hearts helps to increase breast milk... I'm writing from Calgary, Alberta CANADA. I have found that by adding 4 tablespoons of shelled hemp seeds to my protein shake in the morning aids in breast milk production. I noticed a difference when I stopped for a week. You can also just eat the seeds raw, right from the package - they are that tasty! Many health care professionals have tried Hemp Hearts and are having success with their patients. Most of these professionals attribute their success to the superior balance of proteins and essential fats in Hemp Hearts and to the relative absence of sugar, carbohydrates and saturated fats.

Not sure about that, for me anyway

I guess I am in the fortunate position that I haven't struggled to produce enough milk, even with a very hungry baby and only feeding off one side. I'm not anti medication at all, and know nothing about Reglan, but I guess I would want to know a LOT more before chosing that option. I sometimes wonder whether (again, I have no knowledge, just my thoughts) whether people think they aren't producing enough milk, whereas they are, but the baby is unhappy for another reason - teething etc.

Still, if you are unhappy with milk production, it is nice to be able to go armed with an idea of what might help. Are you able to add any further infor to the article about pros and cons of it? It might help others who, like me, have no idea!
