The best thing any new mother can buy

peachynowamum by peachynowamum Talking(December 2006) (rank 313th)

It is my belief that the best thing any new mother can buy and it saves a lot of headache is a 3 in 1 portacot

I use my one at home and when traveling... I did not buy another cot...

A 3 in 1 portacot has 2 levels top level is a bassinet for newborns (this helps save your back from bending too far all the time!) and when they get bigger you can drop it down so no chance of climbing out...

It also comes with a baby change table that i hang of the side and slide it on when bubs needs a nappy change (i find this saves me a lot of trouble and fuss expecialy in the middle of the night...

The side are soft as ther is no wooden bars purely mesh allowing air to get in but bubs cant get their fingers legs or arms stuck and they if they hit their head on the sides it wont hurt infact they dont even realise they have done so and just keep sleeping!!!

And best of all you can pack it up and take it with you when traveling...

My friends child who is older than mine uses hers as a play pen now that she has converted over to a real bed... So you will get a lot of use out of it...

Finally mine only cost me $100 second hand but you can pick them up brand new around $250... this means they are reasonably cheap too as far as beds go....

So my advice is check it out for yourself compare all the pros and cons check out the cost of other cots and make the decision for yourself but i believe once you see and try a portacot for your child you will never go back....

3 in 1 port a cot

I've heard wonderful things about this 3 in 1 port a cot. I never knew they existed until after my daughter was born, and besides, i got everything for my daughter like the big stuff like the cot high chair etc from my brother who's got 3 kids and not having anymore, and all we had to buy was like the car seat, clothing, bottles etc, which we did while i was pregnant.

Another great article. Very well thought out.

Another great thing,
I think one of the greatest inventions is the microwave bottle sterilizer. Gone are the days of soaking bottles & teats in Milton solution. Just pop the whole thing in the microwave for 7 minutes, & presto.... Sterilized bottles!!!

We did too
I think it was the best buy and best used for everything. Instead of spending like $1000s for just a wooden cot (for sleeping only), I rather spent quarter of it but used the cot for everything. Well done to share this to new mothers out there.

great

I too have a pack-n-play and I just love it! It is no longer being used now, but it was very useful. I inherited a crib from my mother in law so we have that upstairs in the bedroom. But since I had a c-section, it was so extremely useful to have another set up in the livingroom so that I didn't need to go up and down the stairs more than once a day.

I love the changing table thing too! Absolutely useful and easy to clean - since I have a boy, he did spray everywhere every now and then he was an infant.  Also absolutely useful when we had to visit the inlaws. It was easy to fold up and take with us!

Great advice and in my opinion, much much more useful than a traditional crib.

With you on this one
My husband was so sad when Ethan passed the weight limit for the changing table that you can put on the top of the Pack-n-Play that we had.  It was so convenient because it was right there in our living room and we just loved it.  The bassinet was also good because it was a great place to put the baby down when I had to run and do something in the other room.  I'm also guessing that it will provide a safe place away from big brother when little brother arrives in February.
