Kris Kringle: Another Idea for Family Tradition on Festive Season (Christmas)

wildrose by wildrose Talking Back(December 2006) (rank 45th)
I believe some of you have heard about 'Kris Kringle' present. If not, well I will tell you. Kris Kringle is a mispronounce name Santa Clause  in German. To find out more see Who is Kris Kringle.
But Kris Kringle also a tradition where people exchange their christmas present (see Wikipedia; Kris Kringle).

How do they do it:
  • I have heard a family did it like this. Start on one Christmas (or you could start sometime at family gathering before Christmas time), you write each name of family members on a piece of papers and put them in a bowl or a hat.
  • Then each person pick one paper from the bowl/hat. The name mention on the paper will be the person he/she will buy the present for next Christmas. So, instead of you buying present for whole family you only buy one.
  • You can always make a rule of how much money should be spent (ie. not more than $50)

I think the idea it is very good. It save each person from spending lot of money and breaking each person bank to pleased each individual. It can be a family tradition without creating more debts.

So if you have not done this. Give it a try. It sounds fun to me.

Merry Christmas to all!

Kris Kringle...
Is always a brilliant Idea... I mean really when you have as many family members as I have it really is a money saving Idea.. And every one still gets a present and every one is happy...

We do this most years but this year we haven't been organised enough.
Great idea though - compared to buying dozens of gifts for dozens of people.

I think it is a good idea, specially when having a big family (have many uncles, aunties, cousins, etc).
