potty training trick ideas

Chip by Chip Walking(December 2006) (rank 500+)

Hi there

I jsut need some feedback please. What sould I do?

Corrie is 2 in February and about 4 weeks ago he decided he was going to use the potty I was over the moon. It was great for about 2 weeks. Well now he refuses

he will stand there when I talk to him tell me no and pee on the floor or he will pee on me when I try to carry him up to go potty. He is refusing. Of the 7 kids John is the only one I didnt train but they were all using potty by about 18 months so I am at a loss here. I know there has been alot of questions about potty training but I am really lost here go back to nappies for now or stick it out?????

In referrence to your delimnea *spelling* ,  Have you tried to see if he wants to sit instead of standing?  I know my son at a young age was more willing to it that way instead of standing.  It spooked him for some reason.  If he insists on standing see if you can find those little disposable targets for him to "aim" at when he is using the potty.  Possibly making it a game for a while.  When I was training my kids,  I created a sticker reward chart.  So if they were consistant and filled their chart up weekly or monthly which ever you decide then it was treat time of either local fast food, toy, book, something they want within reason and that seemed to work well and quick.  When they see they have rewards coming toward them they will try harder to get or have something new and fun.  I hope this helps with ideas at least.  good luck, Chip

training made fun

I was once told to put ping pong balls in the loo for your boy to play hit and miss with. Providing a number 1 is done and not a number 2, the toilet can be flushed and the balls dont get flushed away with the water. Buy a net scoop that you use to scoop fish from a fish tank so you can get the balls out of the loo when anyone else should need to go. I'd imagine a few of the older male members of the clan wouldnt mind a try or two!

Sitting
Sitting is often preferable to standing at a young age from their perspective - the other advantage for you is less mess!

potty
maybe take your son straight on the toilet, and use a smaller toilet seat ( a trainer one ) to put on top of the seat that we use, maybe he doesn't like the potty and maybe to use the big toilet instead. Hope this helps.
