Avoiding the hassle of "Don't touch the Christmas tree"

Kristen by Kristen Young Parent(December 2006) (rank 6th)
Yesterday we went to the Christmas tree farm and cut down our tree.  It was loads of fun but I was dreading the moment after putting it up that Ethan would realize it was there and want to pull it over on his head.  Toddlers are intensely curious and I
knew that it would be to much to ask that he not show any interest in the tree.  I got a stroke of brilliance on the way home and stopped at a craft store.  What did I get?

I got Ethan his own Christmas tree that he could not only decorate himself, he can also touch it whenever he wants.  It was a fake tree approximately 1 foot high with a burlap bag base.  I found packages of nonbreakable ornaments and presents that can be hung on the tree. I got all of this for under $10 (and can be used for years to come).  Now that he has his own tree, he has embraced the idea that the big tree is not to be touched but that he has a tree that he can touch.

So far so good.  I hope this idea might work for you too.  It has totally removed all my "tree stress."

What a great idea!! Our two year old son won't leave ours alone - I might have to get him his own and see if that stops him at all. Thanks for the great advise

their own christmas tree
That is such a great idea. I love the idea. I will have to buy my daughter a tree now for this year, and do what you did, as she was always touching our tree.

great Idea
Having a puppy, I can tell you that it probably won't work with the dog.  Even worse, I would NEVER recommend putting the popcorn strand down at knee level.  Having had to keep the dog AND the 10 month old from eating the tree last year was SOOO much fun.  LOL

I never thought of doing that !   We had an old wooden playpen and the Chrissy tree lived inside that for about 5 years.

that's an awesome idea.  I'll bet it made for hilarious Christmas pictures.  "And here's our tree in the playpen, because he was a bad boy."

As long as you had it when you needed it.  You can only hope that it is still making the Christmas sanity rotation.
