mobile babies

Izzy by Izzy Minti Founder(May 2006) (rank 5th)

My daughter of 10 months all of a sudden cries everytime I put her on the change table to change her nappy. I try everything to distract her but nothing works until I pick her up. Any advice?

My son did the same thing. Once he could crawl,

he hated getting his diaper changed. They've just discovered being able to get around so they don't want to waste time getting held down for diaper changed.  My advise is to keep distracting her with favorite toys. Maybe have a new toy just for diaper change. This way it will always hold her attention. Other than that, you really just have to get used to the crying. Afterall, there's no getting around dirty diapers. Once she is able to walk, you may want to change to convertible diapers that can be put on like underwear and still be used as a regular diaper. This way you can change diapers while she's standing up.

Re: mobile babies
I always made nappy change times a time for conversation and singing as well.  Even with the kids at daycare, this is when we can talk one on one for a few minutes with the babies and toddlers.  It's great fun and they love the interaction.  Of course you still have those babies and toddlers who squirm around on the change mat and scream.  I told one mum last week that changing her nappy was becoming impossible now that she's bigger, she is so much heavier than she was before and can throw herself around with force and since she's nearly 2 could we toilet train her.  She didn't like this idea much but it's worth a though when they get to that stage and they are around 2.

mobile babies

My son most of the time makes changing his nappy feel like i am going through my menopause, i end up hot and sweaty, he continuously wants to roll over and move on, and sometimes when he is being changed  he lashes his legs out and i get a good kick in the tummy. We are introducing him to potty training, i hope he gets a grasp off it soon.

Running!!!
E didnt like just standing up!  She would walk and run as we did it, it was hilarious!  But at least she never cried, she never got bored and changing her nappy was fun.  Also, when she needed to stay still she was happier to, because she knew it was important to me.
Peace

good advice
lots of standing and walking babies like to be changed while standing up i think.  it gives them a feeling of more control and is a precursor to pottytraining.

Distractions really work
We put a mirror about Ethan's changing table and his fascination with the "baby" bought me enough time to finish changing him.
