Bath time

lexiw by lexiw Young Parent(December 2006) (rank 11th)

My eighteen month old always loved his bath right from the first time but recently he started having a screaming fit everytime we tried to bath him. I think it was because I had to wash his hair and he really did not want me to. I was really not

liking forcing him to have a bath as he would get so upset that he got a nervous rash from head to toe so I stopped bathing him.

I would ask him every night if he wanted a bath and when he said no I wouldn't push it. I would wipe him over with a face washer so he was cleaned. I was starting to get worried that he would never want to get in the bath again . I then took him to the pool where other kids his age were playing in the water. I didn't force him I just let him watch and then approach the other kids and water at his own pace. It was so good to see when he reached out his little hand to me and stepped into the water. He held my hand for a while but eventually let go and played quite happily with the other children.

That night he didn't want a bath so again I didn't push it but the next night when his eight year old sister was getting into the bath he went in and started to put his toys in the bath with her and tried to get in himself. Success!!!!

He now gets in the bath as long as his sister is in there first which we will slowly work at getting him to bathe by himself as soon his sister will be to big for him to bathe with. But I feel that because we didn't push him or force him to do what clearly he did not want to do we gradually got him to get back in his bath.

I hope this helps someone else who has a problem bathing their little one.

bathing
My 13 month old son loved his bath from day dot and we have always put toys in there with him and we let him have his play time and he loves it. but when he puts his face in the water and try's to drink it he stands up and wants out but when he looks back at the water he wants to go back in. it is a phase that they all go through.
