How I lost weight after baby |

My weight has always been a struggle for me. Before I fell pregnant I weighed 86kg and - although I didn't put on much weight during pregnancy itself - I ballooned during my daughter's first 6 months of life. By the time I decided I really had to do
something about it, I was 95kg and had extremely bad knee joint pain.
By November last year (about 3 years after my decision to lose weight) I had gotten my weight down to 67kg. I don't have a magic formula. I used a number of different diets - all of which worked for different reasons. The things that all of them had in common which I believe helped me were:
- It encouraged me to eat more fruit and vegies - 7 a day as they say (2 fruit serves, 5 vegie serves).
- I began drinking at least 2 litres of water a day.
- I paid more attention to my portions at meals.
- I ate proper meals rather than grazing and snacking all day.
- I exercised most days.
- I made a friend who was also trying to lose weight and we encouraged each other.
When I say I exercised, the things I did were:
- I would tape Aerobics Oz Style in the morning and do them in the lounge room during the day while my daughter watched me from her bouncer.
- After my husband got home from work, he would look after baby and I would go for a walk around where I live.
- For these evening/night-time walks I would usually meet with my friend (see above) and that would also stop either of us from piking as we didn't want to let the other person down.
- When I started working full-time (and became a single mother) I would make lunchtime my exercise time and would either walk or go on our work's gym equipment. Strangely, despite the access to gym equipment, I usually prefer to go for a walk outside.
- I like to do a little 2 or 3 minute yoga routine each morning. My kids now try to do my "stretching" with me. Even though it's not a huge amount, I find it really keeps me toned and flexible, and I notice the difference if I haven't done it for a few days!
I hope these tips might help someone else in the same situation. I know lots of women struggle with their weight after having babies.
