Keeping Kids entertained during school holidays

Anonymous Author (December 2006)
Near on every holidays I have a sit down and find things to do with my kids to make the hols more interesting.

Quite often we do baking which can be a alot of fun.  we make cupcakes and ice them, playdough, chocolate crackles, biscuits, and heaps of other
goodies.  This partly comes from working in a pre school for 2 years and seeing the delight on the kids faces when they ahow mum, dad, or whoever picksed them up what they made, even if it looked like the biggest mess ever.  My kids especially enjoy licking the bowl and spatula, this was something my mum started and I'm sure there heaps of other people who have fond memories of baking with their parents and licking absolutely everything they were allowed.  I get all the required amounts and put them in little dishes and get the girls to put them into the bowl and stir it through, we have started now letting them measure it out also.

we often do things with beads and make bracelets, nacklaces and heaps of other things.

there is a heap of options and things to do with the kids over the hols and feel free to add any.

These hols I plan on sitting down with my girls and teach them to do cross stitch.

From this site children will learn, how to think through problems, finding different ways to solve problems, and nurturing general logic and reasoning abilities should be emphasized.

Letting them help
I think it's a great idea to let the kids help in the baking by premeasuring all the ingredients and letting them add them to the bowl.  We do that and my son loves to help.

holidays

Although my four children are older now and have friends to visit and so on, these were the type of things I did with them when they were little. Not only is it cheap, it is also teaching them skills that they can use. Another thing my children really enjoyed was raising seeds like pumpkin and sunflowers. We turned it into a science experiment and I was amazed how entranced and involved they were.
