Colic and Acid Reflux

OzBinky by OzBinky Young Parent(December 2006) (rank 13th)
Has anyone had this happen? I have been breastfeeding my 2 month old since she was born. The doctor said she has colic and acid reflux. We have been giving her a bottle of formula, not anything special just the similac advance, and she is happier. Back to her usual self like before the colic set in. Could it be the formula? It is always after I feed it to her. It maybe something in my diet, but I have cut out dairy (and her formula is dairy) and all foods that would make me gassy. No veggies unless they are cooked or in a caserole. HELP!!!!

This is a common problem among babies and in most cases it clears up on its own. The muscle between the esophagus and stomach should normally relax and open up when you swallow, other than that it remains closed.

With babies this muscle hasn't developed properly yet and it opens when it shouldn't, which releases whats in bubs tummy. Air bubbles in the esophagus push it out too. Drinking too fast is another reason why it happens. Avoiding cows milk, like you have, is one thing you can do as well as changing the baby's feeding patterns by interrupting them more frequently to burp him/her.

There has also been some articles published here at minit on this subject. I had a look and found a couple.  tommygirl3669 and lyndsienicholson were two that I found and there is also this one from jenlemen  that you may like to have a look at. It isn't  on reflux per say but it has some great tips for a crying baby and how to cope.

I was going to post this via the comment button but because I wanted to use these links I did it here so that it was neater.....anyway I hope this helps some.

Good Luck matey!
