Toilet Training

Britt by Britt Talking(December 2006) (rank 500+)

i have noticed a few people ask the question about toilet training, just thought i would write a few tips on the topic.

so many people ask the question when is the right age to start toilet training, it is up to you and your child, no child is

the same they are all unique.i used to work in daycare we had kids at 14 months being trained all the way up to 2 1/2.

anyway when starting to toilet train i think best investment is a little pottie. i would take the kids to the "Big toilet" for "big kids", after breeky, after morning tea, after lunch, after afternoon tea, before bed and after they woke up from their naps. i know this sounds like alot but we found they needed the encouragement.

when the kids did wees on the pottie we would jump up and down and praise the kids telling them what big kids they were, we even gave out stickers and stamps. we soon found the kids running out and grabbing us to show us they could go all by themselves.

it doesn't have to be an ugly task the kids think it is great fun if you make it a fun task.

remember

1) take them as much as they need it

2) positive reinforcement

3) make it a game

4) rewards are always great

5) pull ups are even a good way to stop from going through so many undies

hope this has helped anyone out there going through toilet training with their kids

Britt xx

What great advice, thanx for sharing it with us, I agree with all you have said, I have found that offering a reward each time they went worked wonders, it certainly stopped the little accidents

I use all of these for my son & they all work. The praise is the best one I find.

5 simple steps
Seems 5 is a magic number for simple steps to follow to getting to try something new.
I use all of these but the final one....
Great advice

Toilet training
That is one neat piece of advice! I think encouragement is really important when teaching a little child new things, especially with something as big as toilet training!
KEep up the good work,

Love Kayla xx.

toilet training

my daughter was 3 and a half when we toilet trained her. Youre right, every child is different in the training. My daughter didn't use the potty, we have a toilet seat that sits on the big toilet, and she went straight on there, no pull ups, no nothing. It took us i think about 3 months before we took the night time nappy off  and ever since then, she doesn't wet the bed because her cut off point for a drink is 5.30, bet time at 7.30 and she goes to the toilet right before bed.

my daughter didn't want the potty, just looked at it and laughed, adn pointed to the big toilet. But every child is different, and will use what ever is comfortable for them at the time.
