sleep overs

lexiw by lexiw Young Parent(December 2006) (rank 10th)

Sleep overs are usually a great time for kids. I know my daughters love it. Having friends stay over or going to friends houses is usually a really fun time but what if you have a young child who when it gets to bed time they get upset and they

don't want to go to sleep.

1) Give them a cuddle and ask them what is wrong. They probably won't tell you what is really wrong. They might say that they feel sick or that they went to sleep but had a nightmare. Usually it is just because they miss mum and dad or even a sibling could be who they miss.

2) Read them a book once you have them settled enough to dry their tears. This usually distracts them enough so they go back to having fun again.

3) If they still are not happy after this ask them if they want to go home. There is no point in keeping a child against their will they will just get more upset.

4) If you are unable to get the child home that night then explain to them that you will take them home as soon as possible the next day.

5) A Quick phone call to the parents can sometimes help.

6)The last one I would try is top and tailing the kids if you haven't already done this.

I enjoy having kids sleep over but it is really sad when a child starts to cry and stops enjoying the fun that they were having. So I hope these few tips help someone who might run into this problem.

SLEEPOVERS
I have to absolutely agree with you there. We have foster children that come and go at our place all the time, and yes it can be hard for the children to settle down in a strange house. We also spray  fairy spray for the girls mostly so they can have sweet dreams, and for the boys we spray boy deodrant so they can have power dreams. It works all the time, and everyone sleeps well.
