Housework and the little ones

lexiw by lexiw Young Parent(December 2006) (rank 10th)
I was having a really hard time getting my house work done with Zack always wanting my attention so I decided to enlist his help and now at age eighteen months he puts washing in the washing machine (as well as his toys) he puts his toys in his toy box,
tries to vaccum and he also likes to put things in the rubbish. It is so very cute and it means that he and I still spend that time together and I am getting my house work done. This may not work for everyone and it may not last for long but I am going to enjoy it while I can.

Its also....
A positive way to encourage them to look after their things, shows that that housework doesnt miraculously dissappear or is done by faries at night.....AND being able to do a variety of housework jobs is possibly the best set of skills you can share with your child. I heard an interesting comment the other day and a young woman was employed in the hospitality industry and her manager rang her mother and said this girl needs to do some housework she has no cleaning skills. I would have been mortified at the thought of this happening to me, this mum apparently didnt see the problem and the only reason I am sharing is because I think it is essential as parents we encourage our littlies to learn about basic cleaning, cooking and mending and I believe the earlier the better. All my children were encouraged to do "chores" around the house as they were growing up and when I felt they were old enough do do a job properly there were no 1/2 jobs done. Eventually they have moved out and on but my boys shared a house when they first moved out and yes it became a 'boys' house but if they new mum was visiting and yes I would let them know in advance I was popping by to be fair because then I knew I could have a coffee in a clean cup and go to the loo without dire consequences ! That was a few years ago these days you can visit any time they realised that a 'boys" place might be fun for a while but when you clean as you go you dont have to do hours of work when it mounts up.

Little jobs help
Taylor loves to close the fridge door even when there is someone standing i his way *whack* so now instead of telling him off I encourage him to close the door. He knows how to push the front door open and close it, don't you just love it when the look of triumph comes over their sweet little faces awww lol
