Short advice

lexiw by lexiw Young Parent(December 2006) (rank 11th)

I have noticed that some people write very short advice. I understand that people would like more information in the articles but not everybody is good with words. Just because the advice is short does not mean it is bad advice but yet it gets a bad rating. I think

that people should be voting on what use the advice is rather than how short it is. Sometimes the best said things are said in a few words. Look at what our little ones say. It might only be a few words but it could be the smartest thing anybody has ever said in our hearing.

Please don't get me wrong I know that some of the short advice could have more information but then some of it is said very well and informative in a few short words. So as I have asked before can we please really think about how we are voting on minti as alot of people are wanting to leave this beautiful site and I really think this is a shame.

I love minti and personally havn't had a bad experience here but I have spoken to people who have and I just think it is horrible. My belief is that minti is here to help parents from everywhere meet and discuss, to ask questions and give advice. So if I am right about this then why are people being nasty with their votes and comments. Can't we  all be helpful with our votes and comments rather than nasty.

Lastly to those of you who are thinking of leaving minti please think about the majority of people here who are here for the right reasons and are really nice people who want help or to help.

Sweet things come in small packages.

I'll take quality over quantity any day.  So would any professional editor of publications such as newspapers and magazines.  Why condemn people for having what is, by the majority of the publication world, a good ability to summarise?

It's better than wasting time reading a long article that waffles on about trivial detail.  I admit, I can't summarise to save my sanity.  I commend anyone that can do it well.

Short and sweet
I think it is very discouraging for people to have their work down voted just because it is lacking in length.I make sure I give these people a fair go,I think we all have so much to offer each other.Short and sweet can be a treat Every-one has valid and important advice to share,we can learn a great deal even from short advice.I say give every-one a boost of encouragement they deserve it .Great point Lexi

I agree

I tend to vote things down if there is no experience or explaination of how to implement a piece of advice in every day life....because if I cannot relate it to me then the advice is worth nothing to me.

Sometimes a short piece of writing is all that is needed and incorporates what I consider necessary to qualify it as a piece of advice.  This is my personal view

I agree

I don't think the length of the piece matters, because a short one can be more appropriate and get across a point very succintly.  But if its so short it doesn't explain things properly, then I would see it as a less useful piece of advice.
