A trip to the Library, make the most of it.

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(December 2006) (rank 12th)

I love taking my son to the Library, but there are somethings you have to remember when you do this.

  • Make sure when you go to the library  you give yourself and your child at least an hour to take a look around.  There is so
many books to look at and you want to get the books that they will enjoy.
  • Take your child to the library so you guys can pick the books out together.  Then again you will know that they will enjoy the books that you get.
  • Try out diffenent books with differnt topics.  Your children can beinterested in things that you dont even know about.
  • Watch there reaction to the books you choose, you will begin to figure out what topics they actually like.
  • Take some books off the shelves that you think they will like.
  • Choose the ones you want to take home.
  • Sometimes they are more interented in the play areas and dont want to look at the books, in that case just pick out books you think they will like and take them home. Dotn forget to get diffenent topics that you may not think they like.  (EX:  My son loves trains so I might bring home dino books).
  • Children who are old enough to choose their own books should be allowed to do so. If a child is interested in something that will be covered in school later on, it shouldn't be a book that they cant take home or read, because it could help them out in school when the time comes.
  • Make Library visits regular if your child loves to be read to or loves reading.
  • Allow your child to take home books that you know are for older children, as long as the subject is appropriate.
  • Just remeber you have to be willing to search the shelves,  time, and patience

Going to the Library is something I like to do often with my son.  It gives us time together and it gives him time with books.  I hope you take your children to the library and know you and your children will love it.
