Highchair Safety

bellachell by bellachell Talking Back(January 2007) (rank 58th)

Having baby sitting at the table enjoying her meals with the rest of the family is a truly wonderful thing. But accidents ca happen. Here are a few safety tips for highchairs.

Never leave a young child alone while in the highchair, you never know what could happen.

Make sure sliding trays are secured properly, baby could get fingers jammed or even fall out if not secured right.

Keep clean at all times, you don't want bub picking some food up from previous feed and getting sick.

Make sure you always have the chair in the locked position, too many things could go wrong if you don't.

Don't put chair too close to any solid surfaces, bub could kick off and make the chair tumble backward.

If using a hook on type chair make sure the surface is solid and not liable to be slippery.

Lastly always check all equipment regularly for any maintainence problems, ie: loose screws, sharp edges, etc.

I hope this piece of advice will help someone. Thanks for reading.

Re: Highchair Safety
Good advice - parents often forget that we need to be careful with all of the things we use for our children. Kids have a habit of pushing off surfaces with their hands and feet whenever they can, and things do tip! The same advice could be used in regard to strollers, and bouncers etc too.

Good advice!
thank you for that advice, my daughter always sits at the table with us whenever she's eating. Even if we're eating she's there in her high chair! I always make sure it's clean, sometimes you do forget but as soon as you remember its good to do it.

If someone else puts them in, check they have done everything up correctly!!!  I was at my mums for dinner and my sister god love her put my little man in his high chair and slid the tray in, my son went forward to reach for something and toppled out head first onto the floor.
