Toy Safety

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(January 2007) (rank 13th)

I probably should of wrote this advice before christmas but now is better then never.

There are many things that could go wrong with childrens toys and there are things you can do to keep them safe.

BEFORE YOU BUY THE TOY:

  • Look to see
if the age on the box is for your child.
  • Make sure all the eye's and nose exc is on tight, those parts could come off and become a choking hazard.
  • Watch for toys with Edges and points because if they fall while holding it that could become a bad situation.
  • Make sure that any toys with small pieces are on tight because tehy could come of and again become a choking hazard.

AFTER YOU BUY THE TOY:

  • Follow all instructions and safety messages.
  • Make sure they use the toys properly.
  • Look over the toys regularly.
  • Put the toys away so that they trip over them, you can teach them to put there own toys away.
  • Watch them when they are playing with ballons.
  • Dont let your child sleep with toys that have batteries.
  • Throw away broken toys that cant be fixed.

Toys with strings toO!

Also toys with strings... Keep a close eye when they are playing with them!! I have a telephone car and it has a string so that you can drag it around. So whenever she plays with it, I have to keep a close eye on her to make sure that she don't hurt herself with it!

Good advice Marlena!
