Pack Formula Powder and Water Separately

pfallerj by pfallerj Proud Parent(January 2007) (rank 95th)
Today's first time parenting tip - Pack a bottle of formula powder and water in separate bottles to be ready no matter where you are.

Something that's helped my wife and I out a ton in the weeks following all stoppage of breastmilk is to pack our bottles of
formula separately. Instead of taking a bottle pre-made, only to have it go bad before we can even feed the kid, we pack a bottle with powder in it, and one with water in it, pre-measured.

This way, if we need to feed him somewhere there isn't any water, we've got all the supplies ready for us at room temperature. This was a problem with breastmilk, because we had a little cooler and there wasn't always a way to warm the stuff up.

It's also an easy way to help out the babysitter. By now, we're all probably seasoned veterans at formula, diapers, and the like. Someone who isn't around kids a lot might feel intimidated by measuring and mixing formula. (I don't know, maybe not). But this way all they have to do is combine the two bottles and shake.

Great advice
I've been doing the same for quite a while now, it was also great for night feeds measure before you go to sleep then you can stumble out at 2am and not have to think about it. Now that my daughter is 2 i now use the dispenser for flavoured milk powder when we are away from home

Great minds think alike.....

I have done exactly the same since i had my first son 6 years ago. I especially loved using it for night time feeds as you are so blury eyed that you can't see straight and you can pour it in with your eyes closed it's that easy!

Formula mixed with water

When we go out and about I carry a baggy full of dry powder formula with the formula scoop (for proper measuring), a clean sippy cup and bottled waters for mixing. This has worked our real well for us. Even though my now fifteen month old is basically off formula and is now on whole milk I do this so as not to have to carry fresh milk that could spoil. Also, if we are on the go longer than expected I have plenty of dry formula to mix so as not to run out. And we can always stop at a convenient store to buy more bottled waters. There is a new formula by Enfamil called "next step" that is geared towards nine to twenty four month olds. That is what we are using now when we got out and about.

Formula Dispenser
I have been using one of these since Taylor was one month old as we travel a lot to see family. Although I'm not using it at the moment I'm sure to use it with my next children as this was one of the best things I've ever bought.  thumbs up!!

Great advice!
I did this too, but used a container made with a divider in it.  It had 3 compartments and each compartment held 3 scoops of formula each (enough to make a 6 oz bottle).  This was very nice especially when we were going to be out for a long time.
I could bring 2 or three bottles of water and have the container with the formula in it!

This is great advice so not to waste formula since it isn't the cheapest thing in the world!
