Children's Allergies

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(January 2007) (rank 48th)

Sometimes it is really hard to pick out weather your child has am allergie to something or do they have a cold.  I mysekf never could understand why sometimes I thought I was beginning to get a cold and then it would be gone.  It all depended on what

time of the year it was.  Here are somethings about allergies that you might not of known.

  • If one parent has allergies it is 40% likely for the child to have it and if both parents have allergies it is 75% likely for the child to have it.
  • Over the counter Medication can be given to children as long as you follow the label.  If the child is under the age on the bottle dont give it to them.  See a doctor of you would like to find something for the baby.
  • Depending on how bad the allegic reaction is you can get your child tested at any age. Things like peanuts, milk, eggs, asthma, hayfever can be tested on children.  I though that maybe my son had asthma and I told a doctor once and he looked at me like I was nuts.  He said that children cant develope asthma at a young age and ask me if I wanted that for my son.  As if I want my son to suffer with Asthma.  I have asthma myself and I thought that because my son has trouble breathing and snores that he might have asthme.  If you think your child has a allergie get it checked before it becomes a problem.  I still have to get a doctor to take a look at my son.  He either has asthma or his nose passage is plugged from a previous fall which cased him to maybe break his nose.
  • If a child is allergic to a food, most of the time hives, lip, tongue or face swelling or wheezing occurs right  after the child eats the food.
  • If your baby is allergic to there formula there are a number of formula made from lactose free products made for babies who are allergic to milk.  Most formulas are Milk based.

I hope this helps you out if your child is showing signs of being allergic to something.

Re: Children's Allergies
Doctors are reluctant to diagnose asthma in children under two years of age as they don't want to 'label' children and some do grow out of it. Asthma medications are necessary for many people but should not be taken lightly as they can cause lung damage. However, it can cause difficulties if you are not provided with the appropriate preventative and reliever medications that your child needs. If you think your child is having an asthma attack, please don't hesitate to call an ambulance. Asthma can be a life-threatening condition and hospitals are equipped to provide the necessary treatment. Good luck. Kate :)

So Important
It is so important to not give it to children who are under the age on the label in case there is a chemical that may be too advanced for thier undeveloped systems yet.

Great clear advice.  Another winner Marlena!!!
Peace
