Drying baby after bathing

gingermuggins by gingermuggins Talking(January 2007) (rank 264th)

Something i was not shown by the midwife was how to dry my newborn after bathing. Things were going well when i started to notice redness in every crease my bouncing baby had on her sweet body, and it was irritating her. I worked it out for myself why she

was red and sore, i wasnt drying her properly.

From then on i made sure i dried her from top to toe and everywhere inbetween.

Dry between the toes and fingers as this can cause little blisters and become extremely sore. I turned this into a game of 'this little piggy' and she was content to lay there while i tickled and dried.

Dry every crease on the body. Little chubby babys are gorgeous with their little rolls but they can become red, sore and sometimes the skin will start to peel away.

Behind the ears is often overlooked and when this area gets sore, little fingers scratch at it and irritate it more so.

Same goes for behind the knees.

And lastly, the groin area. Most parents know to keep this area dry as it comes naturally with all those nappy changes.

Sometimes, eventhough you have dried your baby properly, he/she will still have redness in these areas, this is becasue baby has been sweating, and it cant always be helped.

To ease the irritation, i use an inexpensive sorbelene cream but you can use any of the nappy rash creams that are available on the market.

Most of all dont turn it into another chore, make it fun and your baby will get use to the small amount of time it takes to get him/her dry.

Keep Smiling
