Exploring is a good thing

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(January 2007) (rank 12th)
A child needs to explore there environment in order to learn.  Just make sure it is a safe environment where the child cant get hurt.  It is how they learn about objects and problem solving.  Children love to try to figure out how things work and what they look
like from the inside.  That is why they learn to move so they can get what they want when they want.  They explore the world by climbing onto furniture and getting themselves into small places. They tend to like to get the family pet, and get into there food.  They get into your cabinets and take out anything they can and they also love purses.  All this stuff is normal and very important in a child's life. They need to do these things in order to make there brains grow.  These things shouldn't be a bad thing for your child to do, just make sure it is safe.

Exploring is Good for kids...
I thoroughly agree that it is good for children to be allowed to explore, find out how things work & what they are made of. Who knows we could have a budding scientist in our midst. The learning experience helps to feed those inquisitive minds. BUT please do make sure to check on your child to be sure they are safe My son (now 25) used to love finding out how things worked. I remember when he was about 7 years old his father gave him permission to go into our old shed & take apart our unused beta video machine. Anyhow, I decided to go check on him - Lucky I did as the lad had the power plugged in & was just about to cut through live electrical wiring. Could have really turned into one shocking experience. Silly Adult should have cut the plug off before allowing the boy to touch it, but I guess he just didn't think & thought my son would realize the danger; Knowing my son he would have figured out how to put it back on again (LOL)

So So True
To explore is a natural progression and our role as parent is to protect and keep them safe as they stretch their boundaries and their abilities.  Beautifully and simply written.
Peace

even to this day
I have cupboard locks on the ones kidlings should not venture and welcome signs on the places they could. My tuppawear cupboard was the kids favorite place to play.....its amazing how long a child can put a lid on and pull a lid off for....
