Picky eater

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(January 2007) (rank 12th)
I often wondered why when I was younger I wouldn't eat foods that I do now.  Now after having my son I am learning why.  When kids are just starting to eat solids it is a new thing for them and it may take some time for them to get
used to textures, color, and tastes.  Most of the time it takes about 5 times of a food for them to really know if they like it or not.  So it is really important to introduce new foods to your child all the time.  Here are some ways of introducing new food to your toddler.
  • Serve a verity of foods at dinner time instead of just one because then it doesn't make a big deal about the new food.
  • If your child isn't eat much do just jump into giving him sugary food just because you want to at least have something in there tummies.
  • make sure there isn't much going on around the child while they are eating.  Turn the tv off and if there is another child running around see if they will go into another room where the child who is eating cant see them.
  • Introduce foods in small amounts one at a time.
  • Don't over fill the child's plate.
  • Look for ways to make a dinner more nutritional like maybe adding whole wheat pasta instead of white
Don't panic if it seems like your toddler isn't growing fast enough. Children don't always grow at a steady pace and there will be times when your child doesn't seem to be growing at all. Your toddler won't grow at nearly the same rate as he did in his first year of life.  I find that my son will go threw stages were he doesn't eat a lot and then other times when I cant feed him fast enough.  It all has to go with there growing, you will also find stages in there sleep where they sleep more some days then others.

So fortunate
I am fortunate in that E isnt picky and although she loves her sweet she appears to have mroe of a savory tooth.  Fruit is her favourite snack and i sincerely hope that in the future we continue so fortunate because it is loely to just have her enjoy things.

I have started having grapefruit again for breakfast, and the first day she tried and didnt like, second day she tried again (all because she wants to eat what I am having - not because I am offering it to her) and preferred the bit of sugar I had sprinkled on top, third day she was after having it all - guess I am gonna have to buy enough grapefruit for her to have some as well.  Maybe she can have it as a treat for weekends.
Peace

Yeah they say you should try stuff you didn't like before every 7 years because your taste buds change.  I also hear that you can look allergies to foods sometimes after 7 years.

picky eaters
Hi,
I have the pickiest eater of anyone i am sure.....
And it is only going to get worse not better.
There are some days it gets me down but I am learning to deal with it
My daughter is Cystic Fibrosis and most of these by the time they are 4-6 end up with either nasal gastric or ng tubes or special buttons to feed them over night while they sleep.
We are praying that our daughter never gets to this stage.
She loves breakfast and downhill it goes from there...by night time we are lucky to get her to eat 3 teaspoons of something
She refuses veges so i often puree them and add them to stuff but woe behold if she realises they are in there...Only thing we have found she likes is chocolate custard and meat.......
I can tell you it is fun
Luv Deb

Really sorry to hear that.  It is bad that some of us take things for granted, like something as simple as eating.  I always say that I wish my son would eat more.  Not that he is picky but just the amount of food he eats isn't enough I think.  You have opened my eyes and made me realize that it would be worse and unless he is unhealthy to not worry about his food in take.

fussy eaters

Mine luckily enough was never really a fussy eater, and still isn't. But there are certain foods still she won't eat like peas, but i'm sure she'll end up liking the foods later on in life that she doesn't eat now.
