Hi Trixie,I have had 3 ectopic pregnancies one my first,I nearly lost my life as it ruptured and wiped out my fallopian tube. You usually have severe abdominal pain which is persistent,my pain was in the high region of my tummy. The tips of your shoulders can be sore to touch.I actually kept bleeding on and off from one period to the next, going from light to heavy and in between, the bleeding is sort of dark and watery.Does it hurt to move your bowels or pee?Your pregnancy hormone levels will drop as the pregnancy goes undetected so sometimes an ectopic won't show up in a normal test, they need to do bloods. An ectopic occurs because of damage to the fallopian tubes or kinks, these kinks can be caused from PID or appendicitis which can slow down the eggs progress in the fallopian tube causing it to implant in the tube and not the womb.Or the tubes may be blocked and or damaged in some way.Not all ectopics result in a loss of a tube, the best thing you can do is to find out ASAP the quicker you are diagnosed the better chance you have of keeping your tube. The risk of having another ectopic after the first is increased by about 10% aprox, most DRS will advise you not to try for a baby for at least 12 months after the ectopic as there is an increased chance of having another ectopic and this will really put you and your body under un-necessary strain. Please be aware that if you do have an ectopic the pregnancy symptoms can still persist even after the removal of said ectopic,I found this very hard to deal with as I knew I no longer had a baby

I would also recommend being put into the female ward and not maternity as seeing other Mums with new borns and being asked what the sex of my baby and to see it was very painful for me but I guess some may find comfort from having bubs around for me it was devastating given my history of ectopics and miscarriages.I hope this has helped Trixie, please go to your doctor and rule it out of your equation.regards Merle
