To all mothers out there who cannot breastfeed or has alot of breastmilk to spare, please read this..
There are mothers out there who desparately need your milk, for these mothers cannot produce their own due to illness, medication, adoption, and not being able to produce their own
for premature or sick babies.
Ok, it might sound a bit weird, but this can give children a helping hand and a better start to their life. Here is the process;
Your breast milk can be pumped, frozen and stored in the privacy of your own home, transporting the milk to the milk bank or hospital can be arranged by your nearest hospital. A donor milk bank is a service established for the purpose of collecting, screening, processing, and distributing donated human milk to meet specific medical needs of individuals for whom it is prescribed.
If you are interested, please see your doctor so they can refer you for a health screening and blood test, the blood test is just to make sure you don't have German measles, syphilis, Hep B & C, HIV 1 & 2 and other viruses and diseases that may harm sick babies, these tests should be at no cost to the donor.
Your milk will be pasteurized by the milk bank so that viruses are killed, but almost all of the passive immunity in breast milk will remain.
Please consider this if you produce excess milk, or have just that bit too much stored in your freezer, as your milk can help give these babies a fighting chance.
