Extra Art?

tracey by tracey Young Parent(June 2006) (rank 13th)
As a parent of two pretty crafty kids I know how quickly the masterpieces can accumulate. I keep a handful for a keepsake book and another stack I store in a drawer for when I need gift tags, cards or wrapping paper. I cut out the details of the painting or
drawing that I love and either fold it in half (for an easy and personal gift tag) or I glue it to a folded piece of card stock, have my kids sign or scribble on the card and mail it off. And if the paper is large enough to wrap a gift with then I’ll do that. I use embroidery thread for the tags and sometimes instead of ribbon on gifts. I get so many compliments on these simple hand made tokens and I save quite a bundle of money as well.

What a great idea!
I can't believe how all the art is adding up thanks to home AND preschool now.  I'm sure all the relatives would love the personal touch.

It makes it much more personal!
We have our kids do cards or color the paper we use the wrap the gifts and it gives them a sense of giving a little bit of themselves, not just some toy they helped us pick out to buy!

Right now in my cubicle I have 2 pieces from my duaghter, one which was framed and given to me for my birthday!  She's thrilled that I have it here (and she remembers too)!

On the other side, at the birthday party for my son (just turned 4) he received a handmade card from one of the guest so I made sure to make a great big fuss about it!  She just gleamed with pride about that.

I get my daughter to draw inside cards to grandparents and the like, having thrown a fair bit of her artwork (she comes home from nursery sometimes with three of four bits). I should save time and energy and do this instead!

Re: Like it
And sometimes the kids just don't feel like making a card when I need one so I use this as a quick solution.
