I got the following in my personal email today. I have seen this website described on television on talk shows and on local news programs before and had not thought to post it here. I do have to say that I heard about the Family Watch Dog website very soon
after we moved to our new neighborhood this past summer. I did go to the website at that time and put in our information and got several listings of registered sex offenders residing in within a certain mile radius (maybe like five miles). The sex offenders registered (having been convicted and still keep up their registration per being on parole) ... the sex offenders registered in my general area were all "statutory rape" convictions ... meaning they had consentual sexual interaction with under age victims ... That could mean anything from a consenting eighteen year old "adult" being with a consenting seventeen year old "child" (but still not legal) to things like grown up teachers preying on twelve year old innocents .... I thank God that there were no pediphiles or child molesters listed in my area ( those are those nasty grown ups that prey on little bitty children, mostly by force or by coercing them by threats and such ) ... Not to say that they are not in my area too. This website is for those who have been convicted, registered and keep their registration current when they relocate (for parole purposes) ... Eventhough, no one stranger can be trusted, this website helps a little to point out a few to definitely not trust . I am glad to pass it on. If the link in the email does not work, let me know ... I will find the proper link if I need to .... I am in the USA , so not sure what span of the globe this covers ....
The following is the email I got :
I thought you might like to know who lives next to you so you can better protect your children or grandchildren. You can register and get the alerts if another sex offender moves close to your address or school.

I wanted to share a website with you that is a good idea to visit. It is
www.familywatchdog.us
When you visit this site you can enter your address and a map will pop up with your house as the small icon of a house and red, blue, green, dots surrounding your entire neighborhood. When you click on these dots, a picture of a person will appear with an address and the description of the crime he or she had committed. The best thing is that you can do is show your children pictures and see how close these people live to your home or school. This site was developed by John Walsh from Americas Most Wanted.
Another tool to help us keep our kids safe.
Please pass on to anyone who has families
