Potty Training

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(January 2007) (rank 48th)
I have just started potty training my son 2 days ago and so far so good.  He has his accidents, but that is gonna happen with every kid.   O wasn't sure if he was ready for it yet but know I know he is.  Here are some things you
should ask yourself before you start.
  • Will your kid be comfortable on the potty?  I bought my son this potty and every time he sat on it it would tip over so I bought him a new one, one that I thought would work for him.  All kids are different and need different things.
  • How old is your child, is it a normal age to start potty training?
  • Does your child tell you when they have to go? My son would tell me that he went to the bathroom and then ask to have his diaper changed right away because it was uncomfortable.
  • Can the child talk, are they able to tell you they need to go to the bathroom?
  • Does your child follow you to the bathroom and show interest in the whole thing?
  • Does your baby have a dry diaper after naps?  The dryer the better after naps but sometimes the night time potty training comes later on after the daytime potty training is done.  Again it all depends on the child.
  • Can you child pull there own pants down? They need to be able to do this so they can get there underwear down when they have to go potty.
Just remember that the first little bit of potty training it may seem like it will never happen but it will.  It just takes some time and effort but it will happen.  I am so proud my my little guy even if he isn't fully potty trained.  I give my son stickers when he goes to the potty, so it gives him a reason to want to do it, not just because he has to.  Good luck with your little ones.

Re: Potty Training
I have just started getting Josh ready for the potty, he is not yet ready to toilet train but I am trying to get him used to the potty though and it is a good way to let him have nappy free time and stops him from throwing a tanty whenever he has to have his nappy changed.

Great Advice!!!

Thank for your advice. I have been contemplating toilet training Taylor but going by your advice I don't think he is ready just yet.

We are still coming to terms with "poo" in his nappy I think he is staring to understand because every time he's done a "poo" I ask him & he just gives me this cheeky smile & runs off lol. Will keep your advice on hand thank you again it has helped a lot

potty training.

You kind of know when they're ready to be toilet / potty trained. I agree, you do expect to have accidents for the first few weeks then after that i think they know what they're doing etc. Good on you for potty training. Well done and good luck
