Children and the supernatural - An invitation to sceptics.

monyq83 by monyq83 Young Parent(January 2007) (rank 11th)

Isnt it amazing how in tune with their surroundings children are.

I know there are alot of sceptics out there when it comes to death and the paranormal, but just once I would like for you to hear what I have to say with an open mind, and consider

every possibility you can think of. Even the insane.

When children talk about ghosts or their invisible friends, many parents and grandparents, and even friends of the family tell them to hush, and that they are speaking of  nonsense. But lets look at this from a different angle. I know this is a very controversial topic, and Im expecting alot of negative feedback on this advice, but look at things for once, from a child's point of view.

Quite regularly, our house has a visit from someone un-dead. I dont know their name or why they're here, but I have no doubt that we have a visitor, and he isnt a happy chappy.

My kids have seen him, and have all, at the same split second, woken up screaming with pure terror, at the exact same time, all screaming, "Mummy theres a yucky man in my room". Do you have any idea how hard it is to get kids back to sleep in that room after one of these visits? Let me tell you now, its damn hard.

I was emailing a friend today, about the visit we had last night. I woke up to hear someone choking. I was in a deep sleep, and suddenly woke up, jumped up out of bed quicker than you can blink, and ran to check on my kids. Ive never ran so fast in my life. Turned out the kids were fine. All sound asleep as if nothing had happened. But I swear blind I know what I heard. Sceptics may argue that I dreamt it, but I swear on my kids, I didnt. My friend asked how kids are so in-tune with the supernatural, and here was my reply:

"society is what makes us who we are. society moulds the way you think and the way you act. children are often too young to mould, and so what you see is truth. if we saw something out of the norm, people would tell us that we imagined it and thats what we would believe. because society told us so. with kids they are such pure and innocent souls that they see exactly what we do, except society hasnt altered their minds. their minds are so young it stays real, whereas our minds are now set to default to tell us that what we see that isnt normal is just make believe."

So next time your litte one doesnt want to go to sleep because there is someone in their room, or when you hear them sitting by their selves, chatting away to an invisible friend, or even next time you see that shadow in the corner of your eye, stop and think about it for a moment. There may be such thing as ghosts after all.

Re: Children and the supernatural - An invitation to sceptics.

Hi id like to share a story that happened while i was 13..I was at a friends house and she had her bf over.Well my friends brother had come to pick us up to take us to stay at his and my sisters place.Well my friends bf had to go throught he back door to leave so that my friends brother didnt see him cos he was scared lol..Anyway my friends bf refused to come over there but we never knew why until a year later. We were at my friends dads house and had a few friends over.We were watching her parents (who are divorced) wedding video and my friends bf took off to another room and was shaking. We ran after him to see what was wrong and he said he seen someone that bought back memories, cos he seen someone that wasnt really there in the backyard that year ago.He said she was short and had short her and a little chubby..We didnt know what was going on cos we were getting freaked out so grabbed out a family album to see who he was talking about and he pointed out my friends deceased aunty. Now he never knew she had passed away and we knew he wasnt lying cos in the photo she had long hair so he cudnt have been lying..I really believe in spirits and i think i have some in my house and it scares me so much knowing there is somone watching me.I guess the only way you can not have ghosts is to bulid a brand new house. I also believe children can see spirits.Great article!!!!

scary..

My bf is such a sceptic, and it drives me insane, because I believe in the supernatural very strongly. I know Lily is very in tune to it too.

I have this friend, who's father died a few months ago. Lily met him once before he died, and didn't really like him. Since his fathers death, my friend has said that he's "almost seen him" a few times a week, just hanging around.

A couple weeks ago, Lily and I went to visit him, and Lily just started freaking out the second we steped in the door, and wouldn't stop screaming, and kept looking out into the kitchen. After about 15 mins of this, I gave up all hope of having a visit with my friend and packed the baby up in the car.

We were out side having a smoke and chatting before i took off (Lily stopped screaming the second we left the house) and my friend mentioned that he'd thought he'd seen his dad in the kitchen that morning. It was really really freaky.

We've only been over to visit 3 times since then, twice Lily was ok, and once she screamed her head off again. Suprise suprise, my buddy had seen his dad in the living room when he got home from work the same day that Lily screamed.

I don't think the man is malicous, I just don't think Lily likes him.

scary..

Ive found babies are the most in tune with this kind of thing.

My 10mth old was playing with a spirit in the kitchen last night. He was the only one in there other than a shadow, and they were having a wonderful time. I even called his dad in to have a look. That was the first time I had seen him interact with spirits, unlike my other kids who are always doing it.

and how did I miss this.....

What a wonderful open article....

I think its arrogant to believe that these things are 'not' possible.....we don't know enough about the world, here and after, to discredit it...just my opinion mind you..

I konw the things I have seen, I know the things my children have seen and I know that there is so much more to life than living and dying......

Good article mony

Yeah isnt it wierd how kids have a natural ability to these sorts of things. I honestly think it is something for parents to encourage with young kids, so they dont lose this sense of otherworldly things that are going on around them. Obviously there is a reason for them being there.

My daughter experiences
My youngest now 12 always was able to see them, spirit. When she was 2 she had a imaginary from for a long time, it was a lady with a very old name, i never heard that name before but it was a name and for a young child to even remember a name like that it would have to be repeated often so i know she did not make it up. The day before my brother committed suicide, she and me were the last one to see him. He loved kids and my daughter was 4 and very very affectionnative so she huged him for about 3 hours and he just loved it because it was true love. Maybe a month after he did she was dancing in my room and saw a man in a black suit, black hair, mustache looking at her and their was a little girls in pink dress with him. They were just looking at her dance, she got scare and they went away. She told me a while after, but meanwhile i had went to see a clairvoyant because i had a hard time to exept the death of my brother, she told me without me saying anything about him, she said don't " worry he is taking care of a little girl" and he is happy, he needs to help her to go in peace. I did not tell my husband because he thinks those things are stupid and then my little one tells meof  her experience in the room. I had no choice than to believe, it was my brother and the child that was coming to visit. She also see my puppy love i had, he died of a train accident when he was 17. He use to wear a orange tshirt all the time that i hate, and when my daughter saw him at my house, the spirit, she ran to me to tell me that a young man had just pass in front of her roomdoor and was wearing a orange shirt. I knew right away it was him. She did not know any of those info. before, it just clicked when she told me. I always felt his presence but i tought it was because i still miss him after 22 years. Strange or what. She sometimes gets tired of it  because she sometimes sees ugly one, are sometimes they stare at her at night and wakes up to see them beside her face. I tell her they don't want to hurt her because they would of a long time ago. My house is cursed because there is always something that brakes down so it doesn't suprise me that it is also full of spirit.

a suggestion
What u can do is during the day burn white candles in the kids rooms while they are not there and pray and tell the spirit that he is died and he needs to go to the light. Keep praying and repeat every day. It can only help. U can cleanse ur house by buying fresh sage, mix it with cedar branches and lavender . Tie them together and go around ur house, opening the windows and push negatives energies out. Ask as u go with herbs that ur house be filled of positive energies and that u want ur kids to be happy. U might think that it sounds funny but it does work. U can also burn the herbs in a metal container and make sure u do every rooms of the house asking and repeating the sentences. Just be careful not to burn urself. My friend did that for me and it felt so nice, it felt like the air in the house was more pure. Goodluck

me again lol
i forgot to add that going back about 15 years ago my gramps was killed when someone decided to have a high speed chase and hit his car doing 200km so the impact of the seatbelt hit him that hard it actually ripped one of his arteries away from his heart killing him instantly, and he was only 42 years old, getting to my point i believe he had unfinished bussiness as he visited my nanna and then came and seen me, it was scary but i wasn't scared of him, if that makes sense, he looked like he was at peace, i only found out he seen my nan when it was the 10 yr anniversary of his death, so it's not like i'm making this stuff up, i just wouldn't say anything if that was the case, i can still remember what he looked and i don't think i'll ever forget it

i had one

when i was young we lived in a semi detached house and apparently there was a boy who had died in the house, well i can sadly say it was true.

one night i woke to find my cabage patch doll being picked up and dropped after a few moments of it being in the air, no one was in the room with me and when i seen it there was no one holding it, i was only little but my mum can still remember my screams from that night and i tell you i can too. it was very scary for a child of my age at the time to see something like that and know that it's not right, so i believe in it and i say to all of you that don't believe in this sort of thing, great i am really glad that you haven't had to experience anything like that and hope that you don't in the future but it is real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so don't push your child aside and act like it doesn't exist because it just means your child can see or sense something you can't that doesn't mean it's not real

great advice mony and keep it up we love to hear your advice

I have seen.
After you have had an encounter it is impossible not to believe. The night my friend died in a car accident I felt his arm around my shoulder to comfort me. It was an amazing thing. I have also seen a little girl in a white dress with beautiful dark long curly hair and felt her emotions.

I have seen.
I should also add that my second child was very close to my freind even shared the same birthday as him and she was not as upset as us . We believe that was because she still had a connection to him so she didn't feel so quickly ripped away from him. She still had him close. For her birthday after his death she asked if she could have two cakes. when I asked her why she said she wanted one for him.

The Unknown

Its so true as adults we have been told its our imagination, there is no such thing etc..   I have had the same thing with my son from a very young age, and then my daughter a few weeks ago asked me who the baby was next door to grandma's, the couple next door just lost their baby 3 weeks before it was due, I didn't tell her about it, but she had seen a little baby and she wanted to know who's baby it was.  Sceptics would say it was a coincidence, I don't think so, people who are sceptical of the unknown especially spirits are just to scared to admit they are among us, its easy to deny what you can not prove then to look like a fool believing.

As for your spirit, have you tried moving him on??  When you move I don't think they can follow unless you invite them.
