when you child comes out of a febril convulsion/epilepsy

supamummy by supamummy Walking(January 2007) (rank 500+)

when a child has a fit their muscles will tense up all over NEVER PUT ANYTHING INTO THEIR MOUTH unless they where eating something and it is still in there.

it is very scary for yourself to see that but it is even scarier for them to wake from

a fit.

they will wake up feeling very achy and disorientated which will probably mean a lot of crying dont cuddle them straight away if their temperature is still high because your body heat will probably top theirs up more. leave your child laying down for about half an hour until they have cooled down when your sure they are out of the fit give them a drink, and just talk to them.

if you havent called an ambulance or taken them to the hospital take them to the hospital. then take them to the docters as soon as possible as their is probably some thing wrong.

just remember i child will have a febril convulsion to because they can not lower their own temperature, basically its just the bodys way of getting rid of the heat but it usually means they need some kind of medical attention. great work to any parent who has got this far without totaly going crazy.

fibrile convulsions are different to epilepsy.
Both result in seizures and the treatment at the time of the seizure is similar but the cause  of the seizures is different.
For epilepsy the 'don't put anything in their mouth' is also correct but not the temperature bit. If the child has an epilepsy diagnosis you don't necessarily call an ambulance each time they have a seizure, the doctor who gave the diagnosis will  give you guidelines as to when to call the ambulance and when it is ok not to.

Good point.  All medical conditions area different so even when similar will have differences in how they are handled.
If there is no previous condition or reason for the fit then a visit to the ER or somewhere will be in good order if for nothing more than peace of mind.

While the fit is in progress simply make the area safe until it is finished and keep as private as possible, especially if in a public area.
Peace
