Toys instead of stickers

Marlena by Marlena Young Parent(January 2007) (rank 12th)
I have been trying to potty train my son and so far so good.  I have been putting his potty in what ever room he is in so it is always there as a reminder.  I had it in the bathroom but when ever he was watching TV or playing
he couldn't be bothered to go all the way to the bathroom.  Once he gets the hang of it and I don't need to ask him all the time to go to the bathroom I am going to slowly move the potty to the bathroom.  This may not work for some children but it is working great for Austin.  Well every time my son uses the potty he would get a sticker.  At first he was so excited but now he isn't so excited to have a sticker.  So I tried to think what else I could give him as a prize.  I thought about candy and chocolate but that didn't last very long in my head.  Then I thought about toys but I knew it would get way to expensive with toys so what I did was took all his little toys in his room and placed them in a bag,  boy does he have a lot.  So now instead of a stickers I get him to pick  two of his toys from the bag and some of the toys that were at the bottom of the toy box are all new to him.

I hope this works for you, and good luck potty training.

Good One
What a great idea, I've been doing the reward chart but my daughter couldn't care less about it, I might dig up some old toys she has and use that, brilliant thanks Marlena...

Such a simple but great idea.....
Wish I had have thought of doing that way back when it could have helped me....

Ooo, Idea...I'll take all my son's BIG BOY toys away and each time he puts the toilet seat down....I'll give 'em back - one day at a time....lol

See, your idea just slightly modified....and here is a classic example of how most advice, such as this, can suite all ages...don't ever walk away from something just because you think you have been there done that, you still may just learn something....

Thanks for sharing this, it really is a great idea...

Brainwave!!!
Those little toys that get forgotten at the bottom are great - I am always amazed at how mnay toys we have lurking around our home in the different boxes we keep.  It is lime a birthday day when I find an old faourite or something neither of us remember and it becomes the favourite immediately (for a while).
Peace

Yeah that is a good one, but the problem with Austin he likes to stick them on his leg head and anywhere else he can, so I don't know how many stickers he has.  Nana says when he goes poo in the potty then he gets a present from her, but that might take a bit.  Pooing is hard to train him.  He is so used to standing to poo that he thinks he cant do it when sitting.

Great idea!
I love the idea of recycling toys.  Arianna has some that she doesn't play with often.   I think I'll try that when she's ready, and save some money.
