Keeping the Kids Amused

Bambie30 by Bambie30 Speaking(January 2007) (rank 230th)
My kids have heaps of toys dont get me wrong but the thing that amazes me the most is those toys just sit or they are played with for 5 or ten minutes. My kids actually prefer to play with the boxes the toys come in or the toy box the toys are supposed to be in. So on days that they r really bored they get some empty dried out bottles decorate them and then put 2 tablespoons of rice in them. We then Tape the lid on and presto they have their own shakin band. They love it. Do u have any other suggestions for home made toys I would love to hear them.

Painting

Butchers paper is a fabulous thing.  Use drawing pins and attach it to your fence.  Your youngsters can paint to their hearts content without Mum worrying about the carpet.  They can toss paint at the paper and have a great time applying the paint in ways they would not be allowed to inside.

Plastic bottle instruments
We made our musical instruments out of plastic bottles, filled some with rice, some with other lentils etc, and one with water as well.  I covered each bottle with pretty paper etc and cover sealed it, but the water one i added sparkly bits to add sparkle and interest of a different kind.

The first time I did this E was about 6 months maybe, and it was the pretty colours that I did it for, and as she grew the pretty colours made moises as well.
Peace

Home made toys
Hey that's a good idea. I've made a few home made toys myself. A plastic bottle filled with water with food dye, bits of coloured sponge, glitter, beads, buttons, pieces of coloured straw makes a great toy for little bubs. You can also make your own mobiles with paper, or milk bottle lids using string to tie and hang up. Oh so many ideas not enough space to write them...! Lots of fun Regards, Hayley xx
