A MUST For Australian Parents Have A Look...An Australian database for sex offenders and paedaphiles

cookclan by cookclan Young Parent(January 2007) (rank 3rd)
Hi I  Believe as parents it is our responsibility to protect our children and every one elses children... While surfing the net tonight I came across this site which I have provided a link for you below...
I do not care if you rate or comment on this advice as
I feel if you just click the link I have done what I needed to do...

I found this while surfing the net tonight

This is a data base of some convicted Australian sex offenders  with photos of some included...I am  a survivor of sexual abuse myself I thought this to be good advice... I am sure there will be alot of other parents who think this advice is well worth the look...

Another thing I would like you to look at is ...EVERYONE who thinks this database is a good idea...BUT needs to be more extensive,  with as many perpetrators of sexual offences and peadopilia as we can get on it (aiming for all) please follow the link below and show your support by signing this petition...

....................................................A worthy Petition ..............................................

Everybody tells us that we have a duty to protect and care for our children yet the government seems to feel that this is not necessary in Australia...PLEASE PLEASE show your support by signing this petition...

DO NOT EVER THINK IT COULD NOT HAPPEN TO ONE OF YOURS...

Thanks for taking the time to read this...

Cheers
Angie

Re: A MUST For Australian Parents Have A Look...An Australian database for sex offenders and paedaphiles
Hi Angie
I think this is a great idea except for one thing, what about the effect on people who are wrongfully convicted.  During my parents very volatile  divorce my mother tried and almost succeded in having my father convicted of sexually abusing my sisters and I. it wasn't true, he never had. As another example we also know a family where the (ex) wife had her (ex) husband wrongfully put away for the same thing by telling her daughter that she would never see her mummy again if she didn't tell a judge that her father had molested her.
Something does need to be done about these revolting people Im just wondering if something like electronic tagging wouldn't be better.
I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on that?
Good to see someone taking some action.

Re: A MUST For Australian Parents Have A Look...An Australian database for sex offenders and paedaphiles

Yeah I've seen this one before, but still I hesitate to sign anything of the sort. Before I get attacked for it this is my reasoning.

These people are released back into the community if they have  served thier sentence and taken part in "rehabilitation" programs. By no means do I actually think that these programs really work, because this behaviour is something that is ingrained in these people. Yes, they are really sick individuals and I don't believe that these people can ever say they are cured or will never do it again. It's what gets thier rocks off. They aren't allowed to live/work near kids eg schools. But they have to live somewhere, and where are they going to live where there are absolutely no children about.

Look what happened with Denis Ferguson. He served his time, then was run out of every house he tried to live in by vigilantes. I do not support the man or what he did, but I also do not support the behaviour of the other people either. This drives this type of person to be more cunning in thier deception and they will reoffend. This person is now back in custody permenantly.

If there is a list of where these people live, it brings forth the question of how far will it be taken? Is there going to be a list for murderers, bank robbers, car theives, blue collar criminals.....where will it end?

What if these people live with thier families? How will this affect them? Haven't they suffered too?

A list of this type could result in these types of people becoming homeless, then we have an even bigger problem.

The essence of this list is to make people more aware, and yes I agree with that. But there is a fine line being tread here, and unfortunatley some people in society have trouble differentiating which side is the right one.

We as parents, and society need to educate ourselves and our children in the behaviours of these people. And hope that anyone who is affected by such terrible people as these, have the strength, and the support networks, to report it and have these people convicted.

Re: A MUST For Australian Parents Have A Look...An Australian database for sex offenders and paedaphiles
Thanks for your comment mate...I am just going to reply on my thoughts as well...Now you have a right to your opinion and I respect that but I also have right to mine so here it is...I am a survivor of sexual abuse as to is my son...The man who did this to me had offended before and his parents knew but did not feel the need to tell my parents as they did not think it was true now he has disappeared of the face of this earth...Once photos of me as a child came up on the internet he disappeared...The man who did this to my son still walks the street...I know for a fact that this man still reoffends...He prays on single mums and offends and offends again....I also know of another minti mum on here who is a survivor and the man who hurt her lives next door to a school after he has been in jail multiple times for the same thing to do with children...But still he lives right near a school...I understand what you say about vigilanty behaviour but I would also like to know if this is like this In america where they already have one going...I know for victims this information is sometimes available...Just some thoughts from me too...As I said before this is my opinion onlyand in no way intended to spark and arguement...Have a great day...
Cheers
Angie

Re: A MUST For Australian Parents Have A Look...An Australian database for sex offenders and paedaphiles

I was trying to instigate any argument or disagreement at all. I totally can see your perspective and reasoning. A couple of years ago i would have said the same thing as you, but in my studies in justice I have had one teacher in particular who has worked many years in child protection and corrections, and he completely changed my view point.

Unfortunately, they are as they are and no matter what punishments are given to them, it's never going to change thier behaviour. As someone else said, if only they could be castrated etc...but that wouldn't work either. It's in thier mind set, they are programmed to be filthy and dangerous, and choppin bits off would only make then worse. The only thing for them is capital punishment, but I don't agree with it either. Because there is always a human who has to inflict the punishment. But I don't agree that they should be kept seperate from the general population in prisons. They should have fend for themselves and feel the fear that they have imposed on others. They certainly should not have any special treatment.

Re: A MUST For Australian Parents Have A Look...An Australian database for sex offenders and paedaphiles
Yep, just signed 152. If it was to help 1 child it would be great. However these are only the convicted ones. We need to teach our children protective behaviours and let them know that there is nothing so bad that they can't talk to us about and believe them if they do disclose something. There is no easy solution but I signed for only one reason and that is if you know that someone is a sex offender in your area you can at least keep your child from being with that person. Every bit helps I guess.
