Children with bruises part 4 |

ok so now here we were with Brielle on steroids, she was looking very swollen like someone had put an air pump into her little body and was very slowly filling her with air. During this time I was terrified her platelets were so low that anything she did frightened
the hell out of me and because by this stage Brielle was a toddler she was constantly hurting herself. She looked like someone had beaten her with a stick all over as she was covered from head to toe in bruises.
I would walk through the shopping centre with my daughters and people would stop and stare, first at one daughter and then at the other, some people would ask what was wrong with Brielle and I would explain to them about the ITP, others would just stare. Someone even called department of childrens services on me becauses of the bruises on Brielle. Life was very hard at this time because all I wanted to do was wrap Brielle in cotton wool and not let her do anything. But by doing this I was making my daughter unhappy so once her levels were at a less dangerous level I had to find a way of letting my daughter enjoy life as much as she could.
Brielle had to be weaned off the tablets slowly over a period of time and was a bit moody because of this.
At one point when Brielle was about 2 1/2 years old I had enough of living in the city and not having anywhere that my children could play in the good clean dirt of where I grew up so I mentioned to Brielle's specialist at the childrens hospital that I was going to take her back to the country to see if it would make a difference for her to be in a healthier enviroment. I was told that I was being silly and that it would make no difference to Brielle where she lived but within two weeks of being in the country Brielle's platelet levels had increased not to normal levels of course but she wa doing alot better. I can't say for sure that this made any difference but I would like to think it did because now at eight years old her levels are good enough for her to live basically a normal life every now and then she sometimes has low levels but overall she is doing ok. We still have to keep an eye on her as she has chronic ITP and it is unlikely that it will just disappear after all this time but life is ok more often than not for her and that is what matters.
Thank you to you all for reading our story and I hope this helps people to understand what some families have to go through.
